Twist N Lock Shower Shelves...ARGH!

Does anyone know any tips on how to make these shelves stay up in the shower?? I keep trying different things, but randomly it will fall down (sometimes will stay up 10 mins, sometimes 4 months).

It is really annoying!!

  • Is it one of the net type shelves from B&Q?

We bought one a few weeks ago and it will not stay on the tiles - gone maximum of a day or so. We have cleaned the tiles numerous times. When we say it we thought it would be great, a shelf we could use without drilling the tiles.

At first we thought it was related to the weight we put on it - not a lot really - but then it kept falling down when holding a shampoo bottle, a nail brush and a razor!

I was thinking of taking it back as not fit for purpose - no point having a shelf if it will not stay on the wall.

I bought a few of these, loo roll holders, shower caddies and towel rails from Argos. They bl**dy things are driving me mad! They just don't stay up! I'm going to write to Argos to complain I think :(
  • Yes ours were bought from B&Q - I thought it was just me not putting them up right.

I'm trying to find a number for the company to complain direct - probably better than trying B&Q!

  • I had one of these in the shower and the thing fell down and punched a hole in the shower tray!
Luckily insurance paid out to have it all fixed but needless to say, won't be using the things again!

Ours works fine. I set it up this way after it kept slipping.

    1. Take the "twist n lock" apart.
    2. Moisten the sucker cup and stick to your tiles, make sure it forms a good seal.
    3. Re-attach one half of the lock, fit the shelf and then attach the second half od the lock.
    4. Tighten! Then tighten it again.
    5. Job done.... Hopefully....

Ours worked for a long time.... While they fell off when was away on a training course for 2 days (left Monday morning, came back Wednesday late night) to a sound of roaring water.... I left dishwasher on a timer, so thought that it had broken. Instead, those twist & lock shelves have fallen and opened the shower over the bath fully to the hottest setting!!! (we had one of those shower settings where you have a separate handle on the wall - pull to open and turn left or right for the temperature) It must have been running for a long while, as the spray from the shower made a small pool on the bathroom floor and as we always leave bathroom door open for better ventilation, the carpet in the landing was soaked. I had 2 viewings next evening.....

So, I cleaned all the water, turned up the heating to full (in April!!!!!) and opened all the windows in house to get the smell of the damp out. Just to notice in the morning the damp patches on the ceilings below.... Sorted all that later on, but I was praying to get asked about these during the viewings. Well, they must have not noticed, as one of the couples have bought the house! Phew....

The shelves ended up in the skip....

they do work, you need a perfectly flat non pourous surface though, we had to put ours onto the glass shower door
  • I had mine less than three weeks so took it back to B&Q yesterday afternoon and got a refund no problem. The B&Q lady said they do not stick to some types of tile.
  • A very light coating of vasaline before you lock it will help loads. It fills the tiny gaps which air can get throught.
Lets get this straight. Say my house is worth £100K, it drops £20K and I complain but I should not complain when I actually pay £200K via a mortgage:rolleyes:
