Why doesn't little bro GET A JOB?

If you read my original post you will see he is looking and will take anything - what else is he supposed to do
  • It says more than once in the thread he is looking for a job and will take anything, bet he finds a job before you find a clue.

Thanks for the support adouglasmhor - having been a lurker for a while I know ANY kind of benefit thread seems to attract the worst trolls on MSE HOWEVER I know that there may be someone out there with good genuine advice to help get them through until the job situation improves so all support is appreciated :D

yes but at mo. he gets £7.00 /wk to pay towards food and bills that £40.00 is just for housing and council tax. mum has had that amount taken off those two benefits and they have to be paid or they will be homeless - she only gets single adult jsa.

Do you mean that your brother only contributes £7 into the household budget and keeps £40 for himself? I do hope not.

I read it as he give his Mum the £40 and this only leaves him with £7 to pay his way towards the food and bills.

Assuming that your brother has no disabilities and doesn't live in the Outer Hebrides then there's something very wrong with his job hunting if he hasn't found something after looking for 2 to 3 months. It's not a question of the job situation improving but of him getting stuck in to finding a job. It's all very well his saying he'll take anything but if he's not applying for EVERYTHING (that includes flipping burgers and cleaning) then he's not putting in enough effort.

Nobody takes a gap year just to sit around on the dole; apart from anything else, he's severely damaging his CV by doing nothing.

I hadn't read it that way but I think, on rereading, that you're right.

OP where has your brother tried to look for jobs, has he tried local paper, has he thought of going to college and doing a course (or is that something he isnt interested in),

As the brother is taking a "gap year" after A levels and before university then this is hardly helpful advice.

What's the reason for doing the gap year now? Is it too late for him to go to Uni this autumn. Can't he have his gap year after Uni?
