I bought a 6101 for my daughter on a 12 month contract from E2SAVE. They have ported her Orange PAYG number to O2 and she can now make calls, receive calls and receive texts. She can't send texts, she gets a message saying the number is not available. Anyone got any ideas?

you need to change the message center number form orange to o2
    try this number
    +447802 000 332

    or look here
    http://www.o2.co.uk/business/updatetxtaddress/0,,300,00.html
  • contract or pre pay on o2 if contract the number posted already is the message centre number if pre pay +447802092035. ;)
  • Had my number ported from Orange to O2 on the 15th and i'm still not able to send texts. It just says 'Recipient not recognised' and fails. Two phone calls to O2 CS, first told me to remove the battery while the phone was switched on and leave for 10 mins, which did nothing. Second call I was informed that there is a message sending problem for ported numbers at the moment and it was being looked into.

EDIT: Checked the number as mentioned above and its correct.

  • Ok, I emailed O2 earlier and received the SMS help FAQ. I went through this and my phone is now sending ok. Perhaps this helped or perhaps its co-incidence?! Anyway, heres the steps to take:

    Dear O2 Customer,

Thank you for enquiring about SMS.

In order to send/receive text messages you will need to have sufficient coverage and sufficient credit on your phone (if you are a Pay & Go customer) and have your phone 'Message Settings' set up correctly to send/receive text messages.

Below are a few things you will need to do in order to help us work out the problem you are experiencing.

Firstly you will need to clean your SIM card, as there may be dirt/dust on the card, which can affect your SMS service. Please remove the SIM card from the phone and wipe it with a soft dry cloth and then replace it back in the phone. The SIM card is usually located in the back of the phone under the battery. Please see your user manual for its exact location and instructions on how to remove/re-insert.

Secondly, you will need to check the service centre number. This is a number that is stored in your message settings, usually under service centre or message centre number. This feature allows your mobile phone to send text messages.

    **Pay Monthly customers**
The message/service centre number should be '+447802000332'.
Please ensure that you have the '+' sign in front of the 44 otherwise it will not work. If you already have the correct message/service centre number entered, please delete it and re-enter it.

    **Pay & Go customers**
The message/service centre number should be '+447802092035'.
Please ensure that you have the '+' sign in front of the 44 otherwise it will not work. If you already have the correct message/service centre number entered, please delete it and re-enter it.

Once the message centre number process has been completed, the next step is to perform a manual network selection. This procedure will 'refresh' your connection with O2. To do this, you will need to navigate through your mobile phone's menu options and locate the network selection menu. (This option will vary with different manufacturers - please see your user manual for further information.) To perform this you will need to do the following:

Select Vodafone from the list of network providers and try to register - you will receive an error message, e.g. 'Failed', 'Forbidden'.
Please repeat the above process and this time, choose O2 from the list.
Finally, send 'yourself' a text message and you should receive it.

If this does not work then please try putting your O2 SIM card into another compatible O2 handset. If you do not know anybody with an O2 handset, you can call into your nearest O2 store and they will be happy to try this for you.

I didnt bother cleaning the SIM as i'd already done that. I entered the msg centre number again, even though it was correct, and changed network to vodafone and back to O2 and now it works. Hope that helps someone.
