So I've just been incredibly LUCKY with all the stuff I've received from Amazon?

The cynic in me is thinking that maybe PF take better care of parcels with Amazon written on them than they do of private individuals parcels. Would hit them in the pocket hard if Amazon withdrew their business.

Any small amount of sympathy I might've had for postal workers pay and conditions has completely evaporated after reading the info on this thread.

why? what exactly did you think happened?
Its reality. what do you think happens when (at last figures i saw) 60,000+ staff are cut from RM letters.
Do you think that happens and nothing changes?
how any packets a minute would you deem an acceptable sorting rate?

There is no need to do silly things like donning white gloves and having pillows. I guess postal workers just work like machines and do not apply common sense. If a packet is marked fragile it should not be difficult to put it on top of a pile . I am surprised RM have not given workers any guidance on how to handle packages marked fragile. The issue of volumes should not be used as an excuse.

    you never answered my question
RMs sorting standard for packets being handsorted is 18 per minute
So,how what are you going to do with your 3 seconds to seperate fragile packets?

    on top of 'a' pile
    what pile is this?
where is it and how is it sorted?

In that case, RM need to change their standards to ensure packages marked fragile are given extra time for sorting. Though given the inside info you have provided, I am not holding my breath.

so you need more staff then?

I guess RM Is the same as any other public sector organization , NHS , etc. Everything has to happen keeping in mind the convenience of the worker , customer be damned .

    So which is it?
more time = less packets sorted = more staff to sort the same volume
So is it convenient for the staff to have less time?
I think you need to decide what you want
I didn't realise all the private sector couriers were increasing staff levels to take the pressure off their staff. is that the case?

How would any person not working in an industry ever have any real idea of exactly what happens behind closed doors?

Like everyone else I expect my stuff to arrive undamaged and for RM to do the job they are paid handsomely for.

Seems like you have an axe to grind with them since you are revealing so many of their secrets on here.
Don't grow up. Its a trap!

    secrets?
I'm not exactly sure what you think is a secret
the nationaly agreed sorting standards are no secret
since the massive majority of RMs items arrive undamaged then I don't see the issue
    its reality
    as for the axe
well half the time Im called an RM sympathiser, the other half a disgruntled ex employee
guess that puts me square in the middle,no?

Well for example call me naive but I had no idea that sorters deliberately threw parcels marked 'fragile' around.

Sad state of affairs in my book. But there ya go.

It s about doing that bit extra in any job. Thinking - Ok, this is marked fragile so I won't stack loads of packages on top of it. It dosen't take too much to do that.

    thats fine,many do
however the simple fact is in RM(and I bet all the other carriers)
the mangers work on 18 per min
they staff on X traffic sorted at X rate
    their mangers work on that
there is no " oh but if i have more staff they can do it better"
you are the one who has a simplistic view of how it should be
    I'm telling you the reality
    in RM thats........
    Letters
    Number per minute
    48 box.....34
    56 box.....31
    63 box.....35
    64 box.....31

    Packet Sorting...DBF...18

    Flat Sorting
    48 box Impact....28
    56 Box Impact....27
    64 Box Impact....26

    Flats.......Handstamp..20
    Packets...Handstamp..16
    Preparation..RM 2000..25 letters
    48 box letter............34 letters
    Wing Prep...............25 letters
    West Bradford..........25 letters

If a member of staff cannot/won't meet these standards, they can and will be 'managed' out of the business

I shouldn't have slagged off the NHS where I have seen staff go the extra mile. A friend of mine was recently discharged from a mental health unit. She found some tablets missing from her discharge meeds. One of the nurses delivered them to her house after seven pm at the end of her shift.

Maybe the postal workers that kick parcels marked fragile should learn from that nurse .

staff go the extra mile in most businesses
    theres nurses who kill people
however as an individual you can only do so much from within that business
for most places you will have people who can slate them/talk of people doing a great job

Oh look, yet another "a parcel got damaged" - "it's your own fault for sending anything in the first place because all delivery systems are woefully carp and understaffed" thread. These haven't got tiresome yet.

hmm, could you quote the post that says that?

I still maintain that RM Staff can do that extra bit by taking a little bit of care with a parcel marked fragile

    Don't throw it around.
    Don't kick it .
Don't stack 100 kgs of stuff over it.

    yeah thats what they do
they go out their way to damage the stuff
so your answer is la la la l la,im not listening to logic
it should just be blah blah blah
As I have said before (although it seems I type to fast for the hard of thinking) staff will try their best. however they are limited by what they can do with time and infrastructure
