AOL MAC Compatibility?

UPDATE: ISSUE RESOLVED!!
I didnt know where to put this, so I thought that by putting it at the top, people will see it clearly
I asked on the BT Live Chat that always pops up on the website when I visit (and usually close, as I dont need the help) and asked them what I could do about it. The man just gave me a link to another form for signing up and it through smoothly.
Hiya all,
I got a new router recently from AOL and it hasnt actually upped my speeds at all.
I was also meant to be sent a MAC, so that should I not want the new router/contract I could switch right away. Well, that didnt get sent, as "technically" my original contract had been cancelled. Whatever, I ignored this fact and figured I deal with it if/when I wanted to switch.
So, after the "stabellising period" of any new router, the speed Im getting is still rubbish, the Idian moron on the Live Chat tried to blame EVERYTHING other than them and even told me I could get more than 2Mbps - which is false. AOL told me themselves I could get more and I know I can as this area is quite good (more people get at least 5 and AOL even said today I should get at least 5.5Mbps).
Well, needless to say, I did request a MAC on the phone today (to a wonderfully cheery Irish lady) and it was sent out today. I just tried to switch and until Id entered it, I didnt realise that it was one character short of what the new provider needs
AOL MAC: xxxx1234567/xx12x
New ISP MAC: xxxx12345678/xx12x
So, other than phoning bother old and new providers tomorrow, what else can I do? Did they just miss off a digit (unlikey, as surely its generated by a computer) or does the new provider just need one specific to them?
Oh and AOL knew who I would be going to, so if that was the case, surely it'd already been taken care of?
Any help ahead of tomorrow's phone calls would be greatly appreciated

Sorry but the only way to get away is with the MAC generated by AOL, it has nothing to do with your new provider. There's no way to guess what the missing digit would be either AFAIK. I can only suggest that before phoning you check whether AOL have emailed your MAC to you?

Yes, I have received the MAC from AOL. Sorry if I didnt make that clear (wanted to smack my computer last night! lol).
The AOL MAC only has *7* numbers in the first half and the new one requires 8. I assumed they would all be interchangeable. Either that or they just missed a number off somewhere (although how I wouldnt know, as Im assuming they are computer generated). *sigh*
Thank you for replying. I havent gotten around to phoning them yet today, but shall do later and just hope they can do something about it
