Defrost my car without leaving engine on

My husband uses a small electric fan heater from an extension in the garage. He places it in car and leaves running for short time allowing windows to defrost. Makes removing ice easier. We have up to 5 cars to defrost in the morning so anything that speeds it up helps.0

As someone who frequently does battle at ungodly hours, I've become a whimp. Cheap 2kw electric fan heater, a time switch and an extension lead. Connect all together and program the timer for 30 mins before you want to leave so the heater comes on. Car is really warm and totally defrosted.
May be mad, but warm!0 -
The inside of my windscreen used to take upto 10 minutes to defrost. Now i fill a hot water bottle up and one of those wheat sacks you heat up in the microwave and put them on the dashboard in the car. While i am eating breakfast and getting ready this demists the inside and also starts to defrost the outside of the windscreen. When i'm ready to leave for work i switch the car on with the heaters full blast and de-ice the remaining frozen windows (although i didn't know it was illegal to keep the car running when you're not in it)
I'm sure i read a post about homemade de-icer but can't seem to find it now0 -

has anyone here who has used newspaper actually thinks it works? as i have seen some people in my street have it the cars at night. I would have though that the paper would stick to the windscreen in severe ice? Am i wrong?0

The newspaper does work, provided its not windy and blows away0

My husband uses a cover that bought from argos for about £5. It has hooks for the wheel arches.
Not that it makes much difference now as husband walks to work now. But it saves scraping.
Does not make the car warm but saves freezing your hands getting the frost off the car.
And I had to chuckle last week I was awake at about 5.30am and could hear my neighbours who where off to work having to scrape :rotfl: what a bunch of numpties (sp?).
