Do these programs conflict?

Spybot is awesome for blocking popups and scanning for spyware etc ~ I use it myself. But I DETEST the teatimer settings.
If you want a program to do the same but LEARN as it goes then I highly recommend COMODO firewall. Its been proven to be one of the (Possibly the best) best software driven firewalls in existence and also comes with a free DEFENSE mode. (Which can be switched off). The defense mode does what spybots tea timer does but is.......ill say.......a lot more palatable to use. If used properly theres VERY little chance of ANYTHING attacking your system (Unless you allowed it to)
You really should get rid of that registry program. Ive found the vast majority to be more trouble than theyre worth!
If you want to be ultra safe (like me
) then I highly recommend using FIREFOX with the NOSCRIPT plugin instead of using Internet Explorer
Basically it will stop just about ANY nasty should it attack you whilst browsing online whilst IE would just let it attack.
Any questions feel free to ask (ALL mentioned software is free by the way):idea:0 -
Therein lies the difference. SpyBot is easier to use for the vast majority. As for blocking pop ups, I had no idea that it had that function. TeaTimer's important function is to alert you when something is being added to your Registry. Apart from that SpyBot has many other useful functions. Take a look around it's Advanced functions..
I have not had a problem with TeaTimer. But don't let that stop you from trying the Comodo Firewall. If you are going to do so, uninstall all of your other security software.0 -
No worries Donnie
When you IMMUNISE it actually puts the addresses of certain POPUP pages into both Firefox AND IE and blocks them. Thats the main reason I use it.:idea:0 -
I forgot about SpyBot's Immunisation.
I only have SpyBot and Zone Alarm Internet Security on my laptop. Nothing appears to have got through in it's lifetime.
CCleaner for regular cleaning.0 -
Well when I advise people to use something its because I KNOW the security is needed for those of us that ARE willing to peruse the internet etc.
Some people say (Rightfully so) that they only go on 'safe' sites and use their computer as safely as they can so theres no need for 'this' and 'that' protection. Well I disagree partially as EVERYONE should have at LEAST a firewall and anti virus protection.
HOWEVER
I myself DO go perusing the net. Ive been on sites I KNOW are TRYING to bombard me with viruses but my protection stops them. I even download certain things KNOWING there are viruses in! I know it may sound crazy but I have my reasons and I know my security will protect me. Ive even let KNOWN viruses actually run! (Again ~ I have my reasons) My avg instantly lights up like a christmas tree but ultimately the virus is stopped in its tracks.
So basically if people use the same protection I use ~ they can be rest assured it is pretty much as safe as you can get

Rik, I am amazed at the knowledge you have - like many others of course.
Don't laugh, but I couldn' find the Teatimer thingy on SB. I let Spybot do the full scan and their were about 49 trackings that I got rid of. My memory is such that I thought AdAware was about pop ups so I ran that too when I realised it wasn't and this computer is behaving better and what is more I am now being remembered on the sites I use, including this one. I worry a bit about firewalls as I know there are two on here. I will download COMODO but only after you reassure me about McAfee and the XP firewall. I can see it will be easy to get rid of McAfee but won't I keep getting warnings from MS
if I attempt to get rid of their's?
I'll get rid of the Registry download. And, I do use Firefox but have not figured out how to shut one page after I have finished with it. Finally,
how do you know that "sites are bombarding you"
Donnie - No, I have not made copies. Should it not be done by backing up after a session?0 -
Dont worry about teatimer. If it WAS running it would be in the control bar (Bottom right) and lighting up every so often asking wether it should be allowed to do 'this' or 'that'.
If your to use comodo firewall you MUST shut down Mcafees permanently (And yes, if you continue to use their anti virs etc i would imagine tyou will keep getting a popup telling so!)
Windows firewalls fine inbetween switchin mcafees off and running comodos
Thetes certain sites that (CAn no longer harm me) but initialy before i had NOSCRIPT installed on firefox my avg was the only thing stopping them and they come RAPID FIRE.
Dont worry ~ on the whole you wont be seeing any of them
However, if you uninstalled mcafee (Which I HIGHLY recommend as its a bit poor on finding certain nasties) and installed avg8. AVG 8 has a google plugin which will scan the site before you even go on it! Puts a tick for safe (Not ALWAYS 100% but at least its there) and a cross for a NASTY
Anyways, off to work now
laters (Just ask if you need any help and ill get back to yas):idea:0 -
I would second Comodo, and in the process get rid of all of the McAfee stuff, ad-aware (used to be good, not any more), and the registry optimiser (replace it with Ccleaner). I prefer Avira AntiVir to AVG (more secure). I would also recommend Firefox, but I haven't gone as far as Noscript. Running two firewalls at the same time compromises security, not improves it, so make sure you don't accidentally.
Also update Spybot to 1.6 and make sure all the immunisation stuff is done, it uses no resources and is quite useful.
I use Spyware Terminator as well for realtime spyware protection, but scan occasionally with SUPERantispyware and Spybot (although the latter's detection is fairly poor).0
