Do these programs conflict?

Computer has been acting up again. Pages slow to show etc. I am running disk defragmenter at the moment to see if that improves anything. In the meantime can anyone tell me if I should get rid of any of the following. If so, which one/s:
SPYBOT search and destroy
Lavasoft Ad-aware 6
PC Pitstop
Scrip Trap
Hijack This
Advanced Registry Optimiser
I believe there is a Firewall with XP and also a McAfee one with AOL9VR.
I also have Kaspersky trial download but not used it yet.
Result of Defragment is "Total MFT fragments 3"
I would be grateful for any advice.

When was the last time you ran Spybot and Ad-Aware?
Getting rid of those programs is unlikely to make your computer go faster. Running them regularly might though.
Are you not using an anti-virus?0 -
Uninstall AdAware 6 as it's an old version. Update SpyBot to the latest version.
Run Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.0 -

Are you not using an anti-virus?
Ran Spybot recently and there was about six items in red listed. Got rid of five of them but there is one, something a bit like ad-aware which it says it will remove on next startup but this bit does not seem to work.0 -

Sorry Marty, should have said, which anti-virus do you recommend?. Isn't Kaspersky anti-virus? I thought I had downloaded Avast but turned out I had not followed their messy instructions in the email they sent!0 -
My sister switched from AVG free to Avira Antivir, and it seems pretty good. Yes, Kaspersky is anti-virus, but your post made it sound as though you hadn't installed it yet.
I would follow Donnie's advice and update Ad-Aware. In my experience, it picks up more than Spybot, so I'd update it and do a scan with it if you haven't recently.0 -
Use AVG or AVAST mate (Though id go with AVAST if you have a slow computer). Putting an anti virus on your computer is the VERY first thing you should do. Then UPDATE it and run a FULL SCAN
make sure TEATIMER is switched OFF in spybot (Its junk and VERY annoying):idea:0 -
All you need for everything is 3 Programs.
Anti-Virus- I reckon AVG
Firewall- I recommend zonealarm
Anti-Spyware - I recommend Spybot S+D
Have 2 of the same type of the programe and they conflict, largely so with firewalls.0 -
Have you run Malwarebytes Anti-Malware as of yet?
I would get rid of Adaware altogether.
SpyBot is better as it has the TeaTimer. It's actually useful, as it will alert you when certain Malware attempts to add itself to the registry.
Since McAfee claim to block scripts, there should be no need to have a second script blocker.
I'm sure that you can live without the "Advanced Registry Optimiser"

Yes, I did run Malwarebytes a few weeks ago and a couple of other things since which I am no longer remembered on my favourite sites and have to login everytime. People have tried to help me with this but no joy so far.
I will have a go with AVAST as recommended by alienRIK and see if there is any improvement. Then, I will read all the advice again. Looks like I should stick with SPYBOT S&D as a few of you recommend it.
One example of current problems is that when I first go on line, scrolling on a web page or email is jerky. This seems to improve the longer I am on line. I will buy a laptop too as the thought of this older computer packing up altogether worries me considering what I use it for.
Thank you all very much - again. Really don't know how I'd manage without you techies.0 -
