How do I get my money back from Pipex?

We have been with Pipex for years for Broadband with no problems and used to pay with debit card.

In July I noticed they took 3 random amounts from our card throughout the month

At the beginning of Aug they said that we had no payment option set up with them and owed them £27 and to contact them in 5 days or they would disconnect us  . My hubby rang up and sorted it out and set up a direct debit to start in Sept.

At the end of August, hubby decided to swap broadband to BT so got a MAC code and an email and letter stating that if we used the MAC code then this would automatically cancel our account. So hubby wouldn't cancel direct debit or contact Pipex, despite me telling him how rubbish they were.

Anyway, we changed to BT on 22 Aug but Pipex have still taken money for the next month  I rang them up to be told that our account was going through cancellation but it would take weeks to finalise (why?) and to cancel our direct debit. I asked if they could kindly give us our money back and she said that this would automatically happen. I said if I cancel the DD then can you still put it in our account and she said that they would put it back to our credit card but then I said that they don't know our credit card details and she said to phone up with them when we get the final letter (?!)

I was getting the run around  . Has anyone else been through a similar situation with Pipex and did you get your money back?

I eventually received most of my monies back from pipex, which i was happy with just to get rid of them, but only after complaining to my local trading standards. I just explained to them that pipex had broken their side of the agreement by not giving me 2 months free access as promised and also a reduced monthly charge, i also had to provide them with copies of my correspondence with pipex and they agreed to take on my case. Trading standards got a reply from pipex in 10 days which i had been waiting weeks for, Pipex had promised to get back to me in 5 working days!! It then took one more call from trading standards and the money was credited back into my account the next day. I received the full amount that they had debited for requesting a MAC code and also most of the money for my phone calls. I am well rid of pipex for good!!:j
