Anyone using an iPhone with a PAYG or on another network other than O2 will need to have opened it up with unlocking software in some way. You've purchased the device, so I'd argue (and many others) that it's not "hacking", it's just enabling it to be used on other networks. It has been widely covered in the tech press. JailBreak is a very well known application. The sites and links supporting it have never been challenged by Apple. And with Support from Woz, it's got very strong backing. It's not hacking in the same way as breaking into something for nefarious purposes, it's akin to unlocking any mobile phone to work on another network, which as everyone knows is a completely legal thing to do, MSE even has articles covering it for standard mobiles.

As Marty says, that'll be your best bet, if you're not technically minded, or happy with "breaking" into the software of the contract or non-UK versions.

Thankyou all so much for taking the time to explain things so clearly to me, most kind and appreciated. I do love the look of the new phone - it is a bit pricey though I guess this time next year it will come down in price like most things do when they are released on the market - it might also affect todays second user market to a more reasonable price eh..
