I phone touch

Not sure where to post this - I'm looking to buy an iphone touch (prezzie) -they seem so expensive in this country.. I'm considering Germany/France via amazon (seems the wii fit is available there) but when I looked on Amazon I couldn't understand the writting LOL
Does anyone know of any good deals - without a contract?

Do you mean an iPod Touch, or an iPhone, both are different devices from Apple, one has a one-off cost, as it's a iPod with WiFi capability, the iPhone is only normally available on a phone contract, as it's a phone...

Your terminology is a little confusing here. Are you looking for an 'iPhone' or an 'iPod Touch'?
  • whoops sorry, I was considering the Iphone without the contract though..I realise why I've got confused someone the other day showed me their phone and they was able to access it devices via touch.

Right ok. When you say you don't want the contract do you mean that you are planning on unlocking it to be used with an existing phone contract or are you just not planning on using it as a phone at all? If the latter is true then what you've got left is an iPod Touch.

But back to your question. The new iPhone 3G is not formally available without signing up to an 18 month O2 contract. Your only choice is to buy an unlocked one from somewhere like ebay.

If you're looking at the iPhone due to it's apparent low cost then be aware that the cost is subsidised by O2 as part of the contract you have to sign up for.
  • thanks for reply, would like to use it with a paygo sim card as I'm buying it for another i don't want to lock myself into a contract. I thought about ebay but its always a worry obtaining a 'genuine model' without knowing its history, guess its not looking good.

I agree, I don't think I'd have the bottle to part with a good few hundred quid on ebay on an iPhone that might not work. That and the fact that they're very expensive because everybody wants one.

You could possibly buy one in the US without a contract, but you'd have to check, then you can use all manner of "hacks" such as JailBreak to open it up to networks, but periodically Apple will lock it back when you run software updates. It's not technically illegal, but it's a grey area, the former co-founder of Apple, Steve Wozniak Steve supports iPhone Hacking, so there you go!
  • LOL like it - a hacker eh...
I did notice they were selling them via ebay from US and wondered if their programmes etc. would be the same for this country.
  • AFAIK O2 PAYG sims work with the IP3G, but IT IS NOT UNLOCKED !!
  • errrrmm sorry don't understand
