personal circumstances rant alert...
urgh!! sorry just wanna moan a minute...Just totalling up my sales for c12... i should be ecstatic.. After clever ordering etc i should be making £125 in commission this campaign... and have £50 worth of returns i could make...so could potentially be making £175 in commission !! BUT im on income support (recently become a single mum and am not working except for avon at the min) so i can only keep £20 a week of my commission.. (£60 a campaign)... so im losing £65 of my commission!!!!:(
Its so disheartening..
Problem is avon isnt enough on its own to live on.. unless i could manage to work at it for 16 hours a week and therefore could claim working tax credit instead.. but i cant see how i could justify 16 hours a week on it?? I usually spend about 8 hours a week on at it the minute as i do 2 territories and only serving my regulars not recanvassed for ages.... i dont drive so cant do parties (and dont have evening childcare) and i dont fancy sales leadership as it seems lots of hassle for little money! Really fed up!I have been applying for every part time job going.. even as little as 8 hours work just to top up my hours to 16.. but no one wants a 23 year old single mum with a toddler when they can employ someone younger who'll cost less or someone without children who can be more flexible!!
[/rant over]
Melvis - thats terrible! Lets hope she has made a mistake!!
Has anyone ordered one the spinning discs from the exercise section? I was going to get myself one to try tone up my belly but i wondering if they are any good? (its alot of money... worried about spending that much on something that might not work!)0 -
Johanne - I know exactly where your coming from on that one!! The rules with income support are a joke, I work PT in a nightclub therefore sacrifice sleep 3-4 nights a week to be able to get WTC and actually make it worth working at all. I'd love a day job but have the same issues about people employing more 'flexible' people.
Oooh I have one, only since Fri though so I'm not sure if it works yet, definately helped with period pains though, normally it's worse than childbirth was but i was almost fine

Hi all,
Just filled in the online form about becoming a rep, then found this thread.
Am a bit worried now about how I will juggle it if I become one, I am working between 50 and 60 hrs at the moment every week due to staff shortage, hours should go back down in next few weeks as people start to return from hols.
Would experienced reps say I should wait til my hours go down, or is it possible to juggle this many hours and Avon?Blood donations to date: 10 | Type: O negative[/B][/CENTER]0 -
Hello people!
I joined AVON last week, not many orders yet. I have a question about this:NOTE: You MUST declare your earnings as you are classed as being self employed whether actually employed, self employed or on benefits already. You can be fined for not doing so and AVON does advise you to sign up as self employed.
Newly self-employed tax helpline: 0845 915 4515
Is what we have to do legally? My sales leader that signed me up never said anything about tax or self-employed, i am confused.

Hi Jolene
yes you do. I think someone mentioned before that Inland Revenue come down really hard if they find out you are doing Avon and not registered Self employed.
You can register for low earnings if you do not think you will make more than the threshold a year.0 -
Hi naughty
welcome to the thread. Some of the more experienced reps will be along later, but I am sure they would suggest at mo, maybe start with friends and family (f&f) to get you started and then when your hours are back to normal, look at your territory, etc.0 -

Hi Both, and welcome.
Jolene - Yes, certainly that's the legal position regarding earnings. It's down to you to decide what you should do, but just keep in mind that Avon is very well documented so it would be all too easy for the IR office to find out you were earning extra to your normal income. On the bright side, there are lots of allowable expenses in addition to the obvious brochures, bags etc. so that reduces the amount you have to pay tax on. On the subject of expenses though, we wary of declaring use of a car unless you have insurance which includes business use - much too easy to cross reference things these days.
Naughty - LOL I don't know how you cope working that many hours in the first place - you must be knackeredI'd agree with Aureol - if you have plenty of contacts (colleagues, family, friends etc) then go for Friends and Family and add territory when you have more time.
Johanne - I really do sympathise. I was in the same sort of position many years back when OH was claiming unemployment benefit; working as a machinist all day, only to have what I earned taken off his benefit  It was 'catch 22' though - it would have been too obvious if i'd decided to stop doing it at that point, so had to 'put up and shut up':mad:'Better to ask a silly question than to make a silly mistake' Elliebee's Mum

Hi all,
I have a question regarding declaring my avon earnings. I have been selling avon for a couple of years now. I have never declared this to the Inland Revenue because the income from it is pretty low (I only sell to a few friends and family.) and to be honest I didnt realise it was a legal requirement. If I declare this now will the Inland Revenue need to know how long I have been doing avon, and will I be penalised for not declaring sooner? I have two part time jobs which I already pay tax on, if that makes any difference?!
