BT Basic

  • The Price list appears to be out of date as it doesn't mention 03 numbers, which the helpline says are treated the same as 01 and 02 numbers (as they should be).

The helpline added that 0845 and 0870 numbers will be free at weekends from April 1st.

The £1.50 per month call allowance (calculated per quarter) isn't going to go far...then 01 and 02 calls over that are 10p per minute + set-up.
  • Has anyone had any problems with receiving the bt basic application form? Weve been waiting since beginning of dec and they keep saying its on its way,not happy at all.
  • My widowed elderly father receives Attendance Allowance but because he has a (small-ish) private pension he receives no income support or other means-tested benefit (obviously he receives a basic, single person's state pension). He's currently on light user scheme but has had no forms to fill in with regard to BT Basic (unless he's forgotten about them and I can't find any!). I'm assuming he won't qualify to go on BT Basic? He makes approx 5 calls per month!
    Call me Carmine....

HAVE YOU SEEN QUENTIN'S CASHBACK CARD??
  • You have to request the form. I can't understand how it can take two weeks to send a form, two days perhaps but two weeks! Perhaps the carrier pigeon tends to get lost.

No form provided unless BT customer. Switched to BT (ordinary account) first then requested the form. Finally on BT Basic with refund for original BT account. Bit of a pain but worth it.

Rung up for form 3 times since December - still not sent one, bet they would send plenty of letters if you did not pay their bill !! BT must hate having to offer this scheme ?

personally i consider ADSL a luxury not a necessity, so in my opinion (my opinion only) if you can afford to pay for broadband, you shouldnt be able to qualify for the BT Basic deal....
    £4988 Lloyds TSB Mastercard
    £400 O/D Lloyds TSB
    £2650 Lloyds TSB Loan
    £5070 Black Horse Finance

Skint, but I have a plan.... an MSE Plan!!!

It's government policy that Broadband should be available to all. 5 year-old children at state schools now have homework which needs to be done on the internet.

If you want to stop the use of the internet by poorer people you need to contact your MP quick.

but not everyone offers a 'free' broadband package, surely the same government policy should make sure all ISP's offer a basic free service then? Am not out to prevent people on lower incomes having access to broadband , but how far do you draw the line, no line installed means no broadband, therefore should BT ne forced to install a line free of charge to allow people on low incomes to get access to broadband as well for the purpose of education... In essence I say yes they should, opening the floodgates to have 'naked adsl' in the UK, meaning people can have connectivity without having to sign up to a phones package.....but someone has to pay for the maintenance of that line, and if someone has free broadband on a free line, wheres the money coming from

BT Basic's £13.50 per quarter is not far from free, certainly compared to normal rates. And, as you say, is necessary in order to get ADSL. I understood the Government say that Broadband will follow this pattern in a few years. Meanwhile it's £17 per month on top.
  • I agree with O/P sentiments.:T

I had great pleasure in telling BT today that as I was going over to Virgin fibre optic cable with no need for a phone line unless they put me back on the old light user scheme ( which they couldnt) they could stuff their line rental. :j

you could always call talk talk or sky or tiscali or orange or any other provider and ask for the light user scheme/basic option. They dont offer anything like that of course as no money in it which is the same reason BT have got rid of lus
And with regards to telling BT you are moving to virgin? the advisor you spoke to couldnt care less and was probably more bothered that you called and wasted their time.
