HSBC the Saga!

Hi All,

I've posted on here before about my on-going dispute with HSBC, but did not receive a great response about it.

I am fully aware that by signing the agreement to have their bank account that I am agreeing to the Ts and Cs and therefore they are quite within their rights to charge me as a reult of this. I am also aware that HSBC and other banking businesses are not charities and that my inability to control my finances (for the sake of argument lets say I am incapable of spending sensibly!) is not their fault......

However.......

I am the customer, I have not done anything to warrant being treated like a fool, idiot, criminal or second class citizen and I feel like in the past 3 months all of these things have been experienced.

I changed banks to the co-operative and they have been nothing but brilliant about everything. And it can be no coincidence that since leaving HSBC 2 mnths ago I have not been overdrawn once!!! No charges at all from the Co-op. However, HSBC have not followed up on any of my complaints, be they over the phone or by letter. Instead they have written a letter to my husband informing him that I had written........I felt like a child who had had a letter sent home!!! How dare he let his wife do something like this. I however have not had a response within the 2 weeks that I have asked them to repsond by.

I would just like to take this opportunity to warn people against the HSBC. They do not help, they are not available at branches nationwide and they do not appear to have any rationality to their actions.

Vent over!!!!

  • Well done, what we must all do is vote with our feet. bad service deserves loss of custom
  • It is shocking in this day and age that they feel the need to contact your husband:eek: If it is your a/c only and not a joint one then if it was me I would be off to a solicitor to get a strongly worded legal letter staing that they have discrimated against you, i.e you are not a child or your husbands chattel you are a person in your own right. I would be demanding an apology in writing off theses bafoons. God anyone would think woman cannot vote without hubby's permission.

The account is joint but my husband and I both have individual accounts with them. I wouldn't have minded if it had been written to both of us but the wording was so ignorant....

We have recently received a letter from your wife suggesting you are not happy with the charges received on this account.

Not a response to the actual complaint either...the charges were one small point on a 3 page letter....and it's OUR account....not his!!! Grrrrr!

The reason that you didn't get many replies to your first post is that stating things like
"I have not done anything to warrant being treated like a fool, idiot, criminal or second class citizen and I feel like in the past 3 months all of these things have been experienced" gives no real insight into what the underlying problems were. Do you really want us to believe that it was all the bank's fault?

In your first post you stated "general bad experiences, theft, mis-sold loan, lack of communication, stupidly high charges for small infractions" No examples given so how can anyone judge.

    Also from your first post-
"This was in the mean time, HSBC decided that, having got the letter to say that I was transfering, they would cancel EVERY SINGLE outgoing bill! This meant that nothing was going in or out!"

You even seem to be annoyed that the bank cancelled your D/Ds and S/Os when you told them that you were leaving them. What was the bank meant to do? Carry on paying them in the hope that you would get round to paying in sometime? I think not.

I shudder to think what you put in your letter of complaint. With allegations of theft and mis-selling it must have made interesting reading.

I agree with the above post.

But if you go overdrawn it really is your own doing! Even if there were charges you should have known what funds you had and been aware of any charges.

It really is like you've tried to blame HSBC for your own spending.

Thank you to those who posted. It's nice to hear that I'm not alone in feeling that their actions have been unbelievably bad! Hopefully, my follow up letters which will go out in a couple of days will gain some kind of resolution.

Deleted comment as reading back...maybe my anger was mis-directed.

I can see how you could end up making situations worse when you have a problem with any company.

There is a certain attitude problem there when in a forum where people are entitled to voice their opinions you're trying to say who can and who can't post.

What I was simply trying to put accross was the lack of good experiences I had had at the hands of HSBC. My personal circumstances are in this case irrelevant and as such I did not feel that the comments made were justified.

Apologies if you feel I have an attitude problem.

Don't apologise to Yuktim ALFlem. He thinks all posters on MSE are stupid, whining, complaining, irrational idiots.

He automatically takes the company's side in 99% of disputes and loves to tell everyone their problem is entirely of their own doing. This winds people up but he enjoys that.

Just remember - the guy has worked from home for a while so doesn't have the normal social interaction there. He belongs to TWO DVD rental companies so probably doesn't get out that much. He NEEDS the attention from folk on this forum.

My experiences with HSBC have been fine but I've had the account since I was a student (a fair while ago) plus my parents both had business accounts with Midland (as it was then) so they know me/our family well.

Sounds like you had a bad experience - now you've posted about it I hope you feel better.
Don't grow up. Its a trap!

    Peace, love and labradors!

You read into too many things Honeydog!

Why on earth would I be a member of two DVD rental firms?
