I ditched HSBC the day I went into my local branch and saw a notice saying that due to customer demand, they would in future be opening at 10.30 a.m. Up until then they were opening at 9.30am.
Do they really think their customers are stupid enough to swallow this type of nonsense.0 -

I left HSBC earlier this year after holding my account with them for 16 years. The last straw was when they removed the counter service in their only branch in a town of 50,000 people.
I found their customer service to be dire as well. My bank account went overdrawn for a few months in a row because of the timing of my direct debits and my payments in. I always ended up with money at the end of the month but they payments out were going before the payments in. I went in to have a financial review or account review (I forget what it was called) and asked the woman I met with to help me to rearrange the SO and DD accordingly. We spent quite some time working out how best to do it and she kept all the papers we'd worked on and assured me it would be fine. I also asked them to increase the overdraft in case it happened again so I wouldn't end up with all the charges I'd had in the past few months. So off I trot, a month later it all happens again. It seemed like she'd just made paper planes or something with the paperwork and never given me a second thought.
When I complained I was told it was all my fault and they would never have done that for me anyway and refused to refund any charges. Then when I tried to reclaim them they told me I would have to pay them £100 an hour to prepare statements from the past 6 years - and I was told this by 3 separate people on the phone, one was a supervisor. I then complained about this and told them it was illegal to do so under the data protection act and finally about 6 months later I got my bank statements (6 years worth) - 6 times. The post man had to bring them in his van because it was literally more than he could fit in his delivery bag.
I was very disappointed to leave because I'd had the account so long and felt like I deserved better but they didn't give a monkeys. I am now with the Halifax and I find them to be in a different league altogether. The customer service there is excellent and they can't do enough for me - and I don't even have all that much money anyway!0
