British Gas Click Energy 2 - 5

I've been on British Gas Click Energy 2 Electricity for some time. And for some stupid reason I assumed that since I was on paperless billing I would get the benefit of their best rate.
When I checked my bill, it turned out that the newer Click Energy 5 tariff is much better.
My quick appraisal of the situation is that British Gas are doing something similar to what banks and insurance companies do with old accounts. They bring out new and better offerings whilst making the older ones less competitive and thus more profitable.
Well done British Gas!
Everyone else, check your BG tariff!

Most energy companies do this - not just British Gas. Do keep up.0

They have followed the example set by banks - interest rates are better for new customers.
A sort of 'reverse loyalty bonus'!0 -
And if this practice did not exist then this site would not exist!0

Click 5 is BGs dirty little secret, didn't you know?
I would imagine it's (partly) funded by all the a/pathetic punters STILL paying their silly standard tariff.

Ok I am a a/pathetic customer still paying standard tariff, is click 5 a much better deal as I understand they haven't put the increase on it yet so won't it go up shortly anyway.0

Woooah! Hi FloFlo, I'm not actually shocked by this as I should be, tbh. Reason being I spoke to a finacial advisor yesterday and as we got chatting it emerged that she had been paying BGs standard tariff since as long as she could remember! A financial advisor!! The meeting took a weird twist as most of the time I was advising HER on how to save money, what a strange World we live in! Needless to say, by the end of our meeting she was going to ring BG immediately and request to go on Click 5 (not surprisingly she hadn't even heard of it! ) and was going to register with Quidco. Please note the people who contibute to the UW threads and cast aspersions on my integrity, both these actions won't earn me a penny!I have done similar things for all my friends, btw.:A
Anyway, Click 5 (OK, pre-increase) is currently approx 50% cheaper than standard tariff and will no doubt remain at least 25% cheaper than standard once the increase comes. Effectively, FloFlo, you are subsidising people like me who pay Click 5 rates. If that doesn't prompt you to take action immedaitely nothing will!Call me Carmine....

I am on click 5. I expect BG to put it up when the winter starts and we all turn on the heating, it can't be costing BG much to leave it low at the moment.0

Thank you for taking the time to reply it is appreciated. I am going to switch to click 5 on line now. I am with Swalec for electricity and it looks like I would save even more by changing to click 5 dual fuel. Just going to phone swalec to phone swalec to see how much credit I am in with them as I pay monthy DD.
Do I need to inform SWALEC I am changing electricity to BG or do BG do it for me. I have never changed energy companies before. (I should be struck off from MSE:o )0 -

I believe they are currently playing a waiting game with Eon who haven't increased their 'secret' online tariff yet either. My wish would be for EVERY BG customer who could go on Click 5 to actually go onto it. There would be mass panic at BG Towers. BG are in the enviable (and frankly ridiculous) position of being able to offer Click 5 due to the crazy number of a/pathetic people who have been paying their standard rate since the year dot. It's a massive cash cow based on apathy. The fact that BGs standard rate is still one of the UKs most popular tariffs speaks volumes about the GB public...
