Hate to ask again XP or Vista?

I am looking at getting a new home PC low spec as use for email, internet, phetos, Word Docs and such. No videos, music or games. Am I safe to get Vista as last time the forum seems to be split in two?

having both, one on pc, one on lappy, I'd still stick with XP if I could choose...I'm getting more au fait with vista but it still annoys the heck out of me when you can't find things that were there in XP.........Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple

Hi
I have problems with Vista, but I run some niche software for remote operation of a camera. It is meant to work with Vista, but it clearly does not. If you are running anything a little less than standard then double check on the Net to see for issues. Otherwise go for it, I find it ok for everything else.0 -
Will you not struggle to get an XP PC now, unless you are doing your own?0

On the OS Vista Ultimate (or something like that) and the business edition there is the option to roll back to XP. So consider getting the all singing and dancing version and give yourself the option to go back.0

I use a Mac, and wouldn't recommend either.
You could also try using Linux.
Despite what Microsoft want you to think, there are more operating systems than Windows.
Seems a but silly only trying out the Microsoft products, but alas, that's what many people do.0 -
Based on your requirements it won't make a lot of difference whether you go for either vista or XP. There are problems with both!! XP needs the right service packs to run smoothly and vista being a new framework has its own bugs. Thats microsoft for you. Most people don't run the utilities that are in operating systems and will find that their PC will stop working within 2 years so look at the best price you can get instead.
If you are buying new from the likes of PC world you probably won't get the choice.
If you run any specialist software (i use the term loosely and will give an example, if you are into crafts, making cards that sort of thing) you need to stick with XP.
Hope this helps. No Unapproved or Personal links in signatures please - FT30
