Awesome battery life, and an external DVD drive can be had for peanuts nowadays.
Could be an option. The drive is not the most important thing, but always handy.deepakgeorge on hotukdeals posted a 15.6" compaq presario deal for £400 including shipping at ebuyer http://www.ebuyer.com/product/186604.
The full description is Compaq Presario CQ61-424sa Laptop, Pentium T4400 2.2GHz, 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD, 15.6" HD TFT, DVD±RW, GMA 4500M, Webcam, Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.
The spec is quite reasonable, except that the processor is a bit average. However if you opt for a machine with a newer and better processor, say a Core i3, the price would be a lot more, or else the spec of the other parts, memory, hard drive, etc would be lower.
Looks nice - I don't really understand processors - what is the machine like in comparison to the one below?
As long as the processor is decent enough to manage basic browsing, social networking and general letter writing et al, then your Compaq link looks a fairly nice machine - and is easy enough to set up wireless on.

Any comments or other suggestions more than welcome.
Hi, I just got the Samsung R519 from Argos yesterday - it has an offer on in the Argos catalogue with a free bag and mouse and also 3 year collect/return warranty as well as 3 year net security. I spent some time looking at other comparable laptops in the other big retailers and nothing else matched for spec at the price.
It has a good firm keyboard but no separate numeric keypad, so far I am really happy with my new machine, having gone from a failed 8 year old windows XP desktop.
I would say a good buy especially if most use will be at home. You may have to travel to get one as only a few stores seem to have them and when I looked they are not available for home delivery.

The £399.99 one, you need the actual catalogue to see the deal. Probably best to search for a shop near you that has one and then find the "wow" deal in their catalogue as it does not show online.0
