Well had some good news today
baby is head down :j which is great news.
Is there anything I can look out for grateful to see if baby is tongue-tied when born? It's just that DH was tongue-tied too and his didn't get sorted till he was 7! I wonder if it runs in familes.
Nightmare parking at hospital though *rolls eyes* and the midwife had a nag at me that I should be taking mat leave earlier to ...'rest and enjoy the last time I'll have alone'.... Obviously she felt very strongly about it but still she has no idea how good work have been to me nor the fact that if I had time off I'd just end up repainting the whole house.
Ah work, well today we got told the business is in money difficulties and so all full timers are going to have to drop a day  It won't affect me but does make me worry about if there'll be a job for me to come back to next year. Also I'm owed some holiday and don't know whether just to let it go or not.
The cupboards are almost bare but I'm going to try my best and resist a big shop till next week as I really want to defrost the frezer before filling it up again.
Corr, that's almost an essay!Well fingers crossed for last night painting the cotbed and we're going to see a lady about reusable nappies tomorrow.

Great news on the baby being the right way! It makes it easier! I bet you're really excited now.
If you can't get the holiday in pay then take them, don't lose them.I can't be bothered updating this anymore0 -
I'm sure you will be protected whilst on maternity leave, in fact I don't think you can be made redundant during that time. Let's hope it's just a temporary financial blip and the company will soon be making money again.
Are you starting to feel really tired again? The last few weeks are sooo tiring.June 2025 - part 1 - £19,145 part 2 - £21,973 Total - £41,118 29 months to go!0 -
They can make you redundant whilst on mat leave but they have to justify why they have done, it can't be just because you're having a baby. Whole departments could go so obviously they couldn't keep a pregnant persons job open. They can make you redundant but you have more rights than another employee in the same boat.
Smlsave there's no point worrying about it, it may be nothingI can't be bothered updating this anymore0 -
Thanks Cath and Iris, I'm not worried about being made redundant really its just not good news really. Fingers crossed the housing market picks up and the mortgage companies start lending again.
Dh thinks that I should just leave the holiday as the companies been so good to me, I'm not 100% sure so I might have a word with the head sec to see what she says. I found this on the direct.gov site:
Holiday entitlement
You build up all your entitlements to paid holiday through all of your Statutory Maternity Leave. This is even if your employment contract says you are entitled to more than the statutory minimum.
You can add holiday to the beginning or end of your Statutory Maternity Leave. You may not be able to carry over untaken holiday entitlement if your Statutory Maternity Leave goes over two holiday years. It is often best to take this at the beginning of your Statutory Maternity Leave
So if the company's still there next year I can always adress it then.
I'm keeping myself busy CathI just get tired in the afternoon atm and bedtime is 10pm at the latest!
Now, do I put the washing out or not...........Currently studying for a Diploma - wish me luck

Hello SmlSave
Hope you don't mind me posting:o
I was made redundant last year about 4 weeks after I started maternity leave. I was paid for all the holidays I would have accrued to the end of my maternity leave and all my statutory maternity pay and occupational maternity pay as well. I think your redundancy date has to be after your 26th (I think) week of pregnancy to get all the mat pay benefits. My occ mat pay was paid in a lump with my redundancy pay and the stat mat pay was paid monthly but emergency taxed. I did get all the tax back earlier this year.
I worked for a bank and I was 36 weeks pregnant when I was made redundant. They were very careful with how they treated me and my colleague who was in the same boat.
I hope you get your holiday paid for but I agree with the previous posters, if they are not gonna pay you, take them now.Save £10,500 - £2673.77 - 25.5%
Pay off £7000 - £1743 - 19.4%
Make £2021 extra income - £99.750 -
Thanks Xspender
Well work gave me a choice and I decided to take a gamble and I'll take the holiday next year upon my return. The gamble is that they might go bust in that time but I devoutly hope not. :A

You can see for yourself, just look under the tongue when baby is "giving voice" !! the frenulum, the little bit of tissue connecting tongue to floor of mouth is really far towards the front of the tongue in tongue-tie and so it limits the movement of the tongue.
Feeding problems may be a sign, difficulty latching on, not gaining weight...but you want to spot it before then really.
BTW you are doing what is right for your family in deciding when to take mat leave, don't worry yourself over unsolicited interference, midwife doesn't know your finances and you do. xPlease do not confuse me with other gratefulsforhelp. x0 -
Still here and everythings still good but everything's very busy! Sods law that work gets manic now meaning I have no time for a proper handover or tidy up.
Will try for a proper update soon.
Main things that have been happening are that we bought our reuseable nappies, have emptied more of the loft, ate a goat curry and brewed a load of fizz.
