Check your system regulary using online on-demand scanners and enjoy fast computing 99% of the time
AVG is appalling and I wouldnt recommend it to my worst enemy. Avast is too fussy and throws up way too many false positives for most users
Im ALL the way computer literate and have had hmmmm....two viruses on my system since i started on the net in 1998ish. both of which my step son caused. The reason I only have had that many - DECENT Security and protection.
Visiting just 4 websites is hardly using the information super highway to its fullest is it."Well, that sounds like a pretty good deal. But I think I got a better one. How about I give you the finger, and you give me my phone call"

So you would run anti-virus software all the time? And suffer crushing performance losses ALL OF THE TIME?! how about you just run the AV when computer illiterate people are on your PC?shadowdragon wrote: »Im ALL the way computer literate and have had hmmmm....two viruses on my system since i started on the net in 1998ish. both of which my step son caused. I dont have any performance loss. 6 firefox tabs open, AV running, Spybot Residend running. 33 processes cpusage jumps from 0% to 2%. Pychical mem available 1.5 out of 2.0 gig.
Hardly a big resource hog is it.
Edit: and im running a 3 year old PC. and I dont have to worry which links I click I can go anywhere."Well, that sounds like a pretty good deal. But I think I got a better one. How about I give you the finger, and you give me my phone call"

I use AVG. Theres nothing wrong with it and ive had NO qualms whatsoever (Apart from ironically a recent update)
Its found REAL nasties that norton AND mcafee have missed and I would NEVER recommend Virgins freebie stuff to anyone.
Mine runs ALL the time and barley registers a blip on my computer.
I think Torres, that you think that whatever YOU say is right and you have absolutely no consideration whatsoever for other people opinions
Trust me, Ive had a LOT of dealings with viruses and AVG is (especially for free) the mutts nuts.
Now im not going to PUSH avg in anyones face. ~ I really couldnt care less if people use it or not.
BUT
Im not going to sit here and have someone slag it off for (ill assume) no REAL apparant reason:idea:0 -
AVG is good, i have used it for years, but recently i have installed NOD32 and thats working a dream. Im well pleased with it upto now. I like that fact it doesnt hassle you it just sits in the background ticking away, updates when it needs to. Nice bit of software."Well, that sounds like a pretty good deal. EVERYONE says Nods really good. If it ever comes to the crunch and I HAVE to pay for software, thats where id head for an anti virus
:idea:0 -
Sorry if I sound like an extremist- its just the my PC is so crap that it suffers when running ANY anti virus software, NOD32 is the least awful of them all though, as posted above.0

you can also leave your front door open , but it's not advisable
always run an antivirus on a PC, some web sites (even hacked legit ones !! ) will install via malicious scripts , it only takes a second !!
I take it you are sure that there is no infection on the PC WadeWade ??Ex forum ambassador

Thanks, Browntoa. I always have Virgin PCGuard running and you can see it updating everytime you go on the internet. The anti-virus scan produces no errors. But, on the other hand my machine does seem to be running slower than it did. How could I tell if I've been the victim of an attack? (I'm not exactly a computer wizkid by the way).0

Try running this free software
Malware Bytes
Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.- Make sure you are connected to the Internet.
- Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
- When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings.
- When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:
- Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
- Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
- Then click Finish.
- MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan. If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself. Press the OK button to close that box and continue. If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install.
- On the Scanner tab:
- Make sure the "Perform Quick Scan" option is selected.
- Then click on the Scan button.
- If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button.
- The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient.
- When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".
- Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.
- Back at the main Scanner screen, click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.
- Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
- When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad.
- The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
- Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply and exit MBAM.
