Landlord buildings insurance

The very least you need to post is the building sum insured.
If it's £200k it's very cheap, if it's £60k is fairly dear. And is it just for buildings cover or any contents?
It is for a flat worth £155,000 and is just buildings (not contents). I was just finding it hard to find insurance companies to insure landlords, but have a few names now so can get quotes and compare!Total (Aug 19):€58,567 Now:€26,947
DFD:Nov 22/June 22
Mortgage: €199,712
MFD: March 2042/July 20340 -
I used the London office of the St Giles Group (http://www.stgilespi.co.uk/) who found me a good policy with AXA (which paid out quite a substantial sum a few months later when a broken pipe caused water damage to our ceiling and wall).
In our case we needed a policy that would cover a shared-freehold converted house, of which the upper-floor flat was owner-occupied and the ground floor flat (ours) was let. Most large brokers couldn't handle this, but St Giles sorted it out in no time.
Thanks for that. Will have a look at these also.Total (Aug 19):€58,567 Now:€26,947

I'm with Zurich and it costs about £9 per month for buildings insurance.I'm happy with them , never had to claim (touching wood frantically ! ) and they leave me alone really.Am the proud holder of an Honours Degree

Oh flip ! ..that's got me thinking now.I've got a Bristol and West BTL mortgage and was advised that Zurich would deal with the required insurance.I will have to dig out my paperwork and have a good looky look.
It's deffo not for contents insurance as well as the tenants can and do sort that out.Am the proud holder of an Honours Degree

My landlords insurance is with the NFU; it's a 5 yr deal, it was 1/3 cheaper yr 1 and still singnificantly cheaper than I could get a quote for last yr (yr 2) plus when we (hubby & I) have ever needed to claim they've been brill, and so have his boys0

you need to be looking for the "£ per £1000 of rebuild value figure rate" which is used by your insurer to calculate your premium - i used Boswells for years - but Boswells have just quoted me £1.40p - per £1000 - i have just got another quote for £1.00 per £1000 - just shows what you can do when you shop around0

I'm just in the process of renewing on 3 properties...buildings only with employers liability all that guff (no contents)....I am a member of NLA so get a discount, and I have over 5 years of no claims. Alan Boswell quoted me over £500, my renewal premium was £353 (ish) with Hamilton Fraser (HFIS). Got a quote from Direct line for business and it was £30 or so cheaper, but no so much coverage. I was with Hamilton Fraser last year and they only put my premium up £5 for a renewal so will reinsure with them. Can't be bothered to move to Direct Line for the sake of £30.
I have prostituted myself between Alan Boswell and Hamilton Fraser for years, switching between them at each renewal.
I also ran web based insurance quotes (just type landlord's insurance into Google) but it soon became clear that I was going to struggle to beat Hamilton Fraser's renewal price.
Try Hamilton Fraser. www.hamiltonfraser.co.ukThe only thing to do with good advice is to pass it on. It is never of any use to oneself. (Oscar Wilde);)0 -

Do you know, I didn't know that!!...thank you sooooo much...have just checked my quote and you are absolutely right. I shall use this in future. Thank you!
I have just worked it out and the price Alan Boswell gave me equates to £1.63 per thousand of rebuild costs! The only thing to do with good advice is to pass it on. It is never of any use to oneself. (Oscar Wilde);)0
