Now the bully will know which kid he should pick on as he will be the one wearing the blue wristband :-/

I think you are missing the message hear, the wearing of the bands if successful will show the average bully he or she is outnumbered as bullying is generally committed by the few on the many!

Another important point is that if promoted well enough it will isolate the bully more and more and those on the fringe will now have another peer group to join instead of making the decision to become a bully rather than be bullied themselves. It sends a valuable message to the victim that he or she is not alone and others are prepared to identify themselves as a friend and perhaps someone to turn to. There are a lot of positive things that can come out of this scheme if it is given the opportunity to flourish, parents need to be seen to be acting positively and enforcing the message on behalf of children.

There is too much misery in our schools and on our streets because people are generally afraid to speak out, it is a natural trait of our society not to want to be the first one to help, there have been many hidden camera experiments bearing this out, often someone appearing to be in distress is ignored by many passers by but once the first person to help is observed by others within minutes a crowd of would be helpers will be gathered, this scheme takes away that "first to respond fear" as the wearer of the band has already identified themselves as being someone who opposes bullying and perhaps prepared to offer assistance this can give the victim the vital courage to speak out.

I personally would like to see it taken a step further and a second coloured band for reformed bullies, these are the bands that would make the most difference as if promoted well they could serve to give an opportunity to bullies to make a voluntary change in their lifestyle and not one that they feel has been imposed on them, I'm sure there are people who would see this as absolutely bonkers but this is just my opinion.

Why is it no matter how many times I preview a post I always manage to spot a typo (or two) the instant I have posted a message?
Four guns yet only one trigger prepare for a volley.

  • i think he was only telling you about free wrist bands,

The lecture was not for the op but for the critic.

And that's the way I read it. Must admit that I was a little concerned with the first reply to my post with no smiley after it. Having been bullied at school from 11 to 15 this post had the best intentions - maybe a "Fashion accessory" statement was a bit off but at least folks are ordering the band - hope they are going to wear it :)

BTW, I can beat the 6'3" - at 6'4". Same at 17 stone but can't quite say that I'm now the 'no fat' option. Just trying to point out that anyone can be bullied, whatever shape, whatever size. Sadly, bullying at school didn't stop until I decked one of them out of sheer frustration of not knowing what to do (was many years ago and no support from teachers etc.). I don't like violence but, after that one incident, it's stuck with me as to why I never did it earlier. I suppose it's always driven me in my career to do the best I can and 'show that lot' what I can really do.
