  • Cats are pretty good. Not sure about the pence per kWh per can of Whiskas though.
    A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.
  • Sorry to return to this subject but we have also looking into the question of these so-called "wonder heaters". We are told that the clay bed has titanium chips embedded and that these allow the slow release of the initial electrical input, thus allowing the heater to "power-up" quickly and then switch off and release the heat obtained gradually, remaining hot/warm for up to 100 minutes. Is this correct? Any further information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

    Completely misleading advertising blurb, and absolutely typical of the way these firms try to 'blind you with science'.

    It has been said many times but all forms of electrical heating* are 100% efficient. So it doesn't matter if you have a £10 fan heater from Argos, an oil filled radiator, Granny's old 1/2/3 bar fire or one of these heaters filled with clay, titanium, gel, gold, or any substance known to man - you will get out exactly the same amount of heat for the same running cost. That isn't an opinion, it is a fact.

    The only difference is the manner of delivery of that heat. You can get virtually instant heat with, say, a fan heater; but you will have no residual heat.

    OR

    You can get something like an oil filled radiator(for £30) which takes time to warm up and give out heat, but there is some residual heat after it is switched off.

    The bottom line is that the total amount of heat delivered for, say, 50pence(or any cost) is exactly the same for any type of heater.

    So without question, these wonder heaters are no more efficient than any other heater.

    * excluding heat pumps.
  • Cardew,

    Thank you so much for your reply. We were to be charged £1,200 plus for one heater which we were going to use as a test basis. I think we will abstain following your comments.

    Dimplex, Creda, Unidare etc do heaters that will remain warm for about 12 hours. They're called storage heaters and cost about £300 + some electric wiring.

    Unlike the 'wonder heaters', storage heaters use cheaper off-peak overnight electricity.

    But the same heat equation still applies: electricity in = heat out.
