Should we pull out of house buy

Just an update for those who give a damn:
I have phoned all of the relevant people and we are now no longer going ahead with the purchase... A large part of me is sad that we can't move into our lovely new home, but an even greater part of me is glad to be free of the stress and worry. Safe in the knowledge that my savings are in the bank, I think we should be ok.
All of that pleasurable process cost me £300... Stupid economy crashing0 -
Heh, interesting. The house has gone back on the market for 20k more than we offered... Go figure!

Its astounding that you percieve the advice offered on an internet forum to sway your future.
Got some magic beans here....................................i could probably talk you into buying them.Official MR B fan club, dont go............................0 -
With respect I don't think you can compare not being able to paint your room, with being trapped in negative equity.
I don't get this obsession with painting anyway. I don't want to paint anything!...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

Why does that follow?
I'm one of four, and shared a room with my sister until I was in my early teens, and my younger brother and sister shared for some years as well....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

Of course it matters. You are likely to be paying more every month for decades, and the sum borrowed is higher!...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
But having the stablility (espec once you have kids), really does wonders for your mental health (renting is anything but stressfree).
That's just not true as a blanket statement. Renting is entirely stressfree for us - and we have a 3 year old son. Couldn't be less hassle....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
Just my late thoughts on buying and the monthly costs in doing so.
Mortgage xxx
Life insurance to cover breadwinner xxx
Council tax xxx
Building insurance xxx
Have I missed anything?
Council tax shouldn't be counted as a buying cost - renters pay it too, usually.
The cost of maintaining the place needs to be counted in, and the service charge, if there is one....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
I think you're all right, not going through with this will allow us to relax and just enjoy the baby until a good time to buy comes along again in a few years!
Great idea. I suggest you look for a 12 month initial rental contract, rather than 6 months, and look for a LL happy to have a long-term tenant (many do want this).
Enjoy the baby! Our son gives us such immense joy....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0
