DCH - The Debt Consumer Helpline -beware?

Had a dodgy call at work today whereby I answered the phone, listened to silence for a while while the autodialler connected me to an Indian sounding gentleman who asked for me by name. He then proceeded to tell me he was from a company called DCH - The Debt Consumer Helpline and said "you have a couple of debts that are still pending" or words very similar. I replied " I beg your pardon" in a rather abrupt voice and at that point he did a little cough and hung up!

Anyone experienced calls from this "company"? Is it worth me doing a credit check just to be on the safe side?

Cheers!

  • We have had this Indian woman calling us ever since we had moved into our new house. The number was different but she kept asking for someone who did not live at our address. We kept telling her that it was the wrong number and there was no person by that name but still she keeps calling. When asked who she was from she would either hang up or just keep asking for the person. She called today and we pretended to be the person and she started demanding that we pay the debts, when asked who it was she confirmed it was Debt Consumer Helpline. I am now trying to track them down to stop them calling again. Not sure if its a scam or just crap information they have.
  • just a nother comapny trying to get you to pay an amount or paying them to set up an arranagment with various creditors which you can do yourself for free.

just put on ignore list, thats what I do
  • A BIT annyoed since I have to re-write my entire post because of some error!!

BUt anyways... I also got a call today at work! from these people. A gentleman with a very thick, almost non-understandlbe indian accent called me to soledate my apparent debts..

I have no debts so when I asked where he got this information and from whom he gave some dodgy answer which I still didn't understand because he never said who. He the proceeded to give me my details and asking me to confirm, I was still asking who gave you this information? All he said is "Do you have a debt? We are here to help you.." When I said to him, look I don't know who you are and why you are calling me, instead of clearing up the fact, he just said I am Harry, from bch (turned oput to be dch) when I asked about a web adress he claimed it to be www.dch.com... it is not.. I also asked him why he was calling me, he then just said. We will get back to you tomorrow..before I could say NO THANK YOU! and ask for contact details.. he hung up in my ear..VERY RUDE.

Now, I don't know what serious debt cosoladating company would have non fluent english speaking people as staff (as this seems to be the trend, when seeing previous posters..) and the staff seem to be very rude and not willing to share information about why/who and from where they are calling..

If anyone get's anymore info about this so called company than pls post! Phone nr anything! I became a member just so I could post this since there was no info on the internet except this thread.. and judging by the nr of people who has looked at the thread since the first was posted just a few days ago it seems like many people are trying to figure out the same thing...
  • They've been calling me for months now, although they've got the wrong name and address they just won't stop.

I'm TPS registered, so I shouldn't be getting these calls. They don't respond well to any challenges about unsolicited calls, and their data protection policies. I'm really fed up now, unless anyone has any better ideas, I'm off to buy a whistle!

    Who are they?!?!
  • is it giving a number when thay call?
There are quite a lot of comapnies like this including the famous one that asks you to press '9' to be connected to an advisor....
  • Unknown number!

Gah, off to call the Infomation Comissioners office to see if they can do anything.

3 calls a day is ridculous
  • The chap I spoke to within the ICO is familiar with the DCH and its many guises, I'm being sent a complaint form for them to investigate. I suggest anyone else in the same situation has a go. I'll post an update on the complaint when I have one.
  • Good Tarpinder pls let us know what you find out. Tired of being harassed by weird companies you never registerd to..

He he-my fil gets these type of calls all the time (he is the last person in the world who would ever get in debt). He loves having a row and answers the phone to everyone with a "growl",just in case it's one of these telesales people.

If the call comes from abroad, tps have no duristiction anyway, unfortunately.

Why would a "helpline " ring you up?
Isn't it usually the other way round..

He hasnt dealt with this lot yet then!
The woman calling us just keeps repeating "Can I speak with Mrs *****?) over and over no matter what questions you ask, there is no arguing with her if you raise your voice she hangs up and calls again later.
She only gave us info when we pretended to be the woman and then she started shouted "Why you not pay your debts?" If it was someone else I would be laughing!

I contacted TPS before and unless they are selling they cannot get involved anyway
