Hi All,
So supposing you got your £144 on your card before 30th Nov and therefore got the the £6 bonus, as long as you spent at least £6 by 31st Dec would you be okay or does the bonus still get withdrawn unless the card is empty by 31st Dec?
Cheers

After speaking to a customer service representative at my local Asda, I was told that I would lose the bonus unless I spent the whole amount. I challenged this as it was contrary to what I'd been told previously. I was offered a refund and have just come back from my local Asda (Chatham) and have now been told that the bonus is not lost providing a transaction is made using the card between the Bonus Day and 31 December.
This information came from 'Asda House' who can be contacted on

I have suggested that they alter the wording on their cards (even my work colleagues were confused).:A:icotbaske0 -
Last year I used up my Christmas Savings Card balance by buying gift cards. I have also loaded 2 cards using Egg Money thereby getting 1% cashback hopefully Egg will do the same as last year and increase it to 2% in the run up to Christmas - I might take out a 3rd one then0

Evening all
Im a ASDA checkout colleague so hopefully I can tell you all whats right and wrong!!
The bonus amount only becomes valid when the card balance is at
£49 £1 bonus = £50 on card
£97 £3 bonus = £100 on card
£144 £6 bonus = £150 on card
BUT !! - you must have that amount to receieve the bonus
We can check the amount your card has on it at the checkout - IF you have used your christmas card to top up say £5 (for example) It will say on the bottom of the reciept - your starting balance ie £0 - the amount you have put on - £5 and then the new amount - we can also check the history of the card too
Get down to your nearest ASDA and top up your christmas cards people to get your bonuses !!0 -
Half of the people giving out advice on here about this are talking absolute rubbish.
You can used any credit card to top up your ASDA Xmas bonus card, and it is absolute nonsense that the card has to be redeemed by 31st December.
You can use the same card right up till there is no money left on it and start again, and as long as you have £144 on it again by the next cutoff date you will get the £6 bonus again.
I have been doing this for years
I also have this in writing from ASDA customer services in Leeds0 -
i went to my local asda today after calling the head office to check the bonus date and was told it was tody 21st november when i went to the store the bonus was added last sunday and so i am unable to finish topping my card up for the 6 pounds bonus instead i got the £1 bonus :-( so fed up especially as i travelled across town to do it too
i doubt ill bother next year they should put the date on the actual cards for when youstart saving its not usefull to just have it done as word of mouth my asda doesnt even have any leaflets or posters telling you of dates even the till staff arent told :-(Mortgage at start of MFW £101416.74(27yrs)
original payment £459.67, new payment £550.00
overpaying by £90.33 ( reduces term to 21yrs !!)
Saved over £11K in interest so far WOOHOO!!
Were not rich just paying off tiny bits here and there.0 -
As I read through this thread and all the messages, some have posted different numbers and some have simply repeated what others said, only making things more confusing.
I think there is a difference between the different types of Cards ASDA provides, e.g. a gift card isn't the same as a Christmas Savings Card.
From what I understand, the process is as follows:
-go to an Asda store on/before 20Nov
-get a Christmas Savings Card
-put 144 pounds on it at a checkout (you don't have to buy anything, can pay by cash/card)
-keep the receipt that shows you've added balance to the card
-optional: register the card online so you can protect the balance when your card is lost/stolen
-spend the amount you've put on the card from 21 Nov
the bonus (T&C 11 below) will be applied if you spent the 144 before the 31st of Dec.
-check your till receipts to see the new balance of the card
*any amount not spend by 31Dec will still be available, but you won't get the bonus
instead of 144 pounds, an x amount of 49 or more can be put on the card - in that case, you'd have to spend that x amount by 31Dec
My main confusion is about the amount I need to spend to keep the bonus - I can't find online T&Cs that can confirm * above.
QUESTION:
If I put 144 pounds on the card and only spent a small amount between 21Nov and 31Dec, do I get to keep the 6 pound bonus??
If, for example, I have 144 on the card on 20Nov and only spend 143 on the card between 21Nov and 31Dec, does that mean that instead of the 7 I'd have after application of the bonus, I can only spend 1 on 1Jan?
I have found some posts that confirm the * statement above, but none mention sources/links. Can posters quoting T&C text provide a link to where they found the information? I found the Faq, the cards T&Cs, but there seem to be more pages with legal texts.
relevant T&C - via cards.asda.com/terms
6. This card is valid for a period of two years from your last transaction. You will not be able to use your card after that date and any unused balance on the card will be lost. If you want to use the card in years following the year of purchase please see in store and on [ASDA website] for up-to-date terms and conditions.
11. Christmas Savings Card: You can save up to £144 on each card and we'll give you a special bonus on Sunday 21st November 2010. So if you've saved £49 you'll get an extra £1, at £97 you'll get £3 extra and if you've saved the maximum amount of £144 we'll give you £6.

@babybakey how did you find out you got the bonus? what type of card do you have?
@pappyon if my statements above are correct, the suggestion is to spend the full amount to get the bonus this year. can you confirm that if I put 144 on the card but only spend some of it in Nov/Dec (say 10 pounds), I will have 144 + 6 bonus - 10 spend = 140 pounds on it in Jan 2011? (see my main question)
@IainBUK your post doesn't clarify anything, apart from what can be checked at a till. Would the 21Nov bonus show up in the history? Would the history you can produce be the same as those that can be seen online when a card has been registered? Can you answer my main question? Thanks (:
@JR19 - see my question for pappyon, can Asda confirm that *any* transaction will make the bonus permanent?
@jellyhead you can load money onto the card at any time, but will have to wait with spending it until the bonus day to receive the bonus.
@buses7675 wrong date - see T&C 11 above. Your question is the same as mine (:
@GWaites any links or sources for that info? the inactivity is mentioned differently in the quoted T&C 6 above. thanks for the clear post (:
@EvilMonkey this thread is about a Christmas Savings Card that offers a bonus. the bonus is subject to specific T&C and I am fairly certain the technicalities behind the card are more complicated than those of a normal gift card.
@servalan1 have you got any links or sources? does the bonus appear on till receipts when you pay with the card? do the bonus and expiry dates get mentioned on receipts?
@Kantankrus Mare I agree with your opinion - balance carried over is not quite the same as keeping the bonus. And thanks for your research! (:
@RAMBLER I'd prefer online text, to clear confusion for everybody (verbal confirmation does not convince me), I've not found any sources yet.
@ericpode if you want the card, you only 'buy' the balance for it (see process above).
@mooch, robnye - any links to T&C or other source(s)?0 -
Why reply to a 2year-old thread??0
