I posted this on a forum because one is not able to approach MSE direct - hence my preamble to the post. It seems I was right because the forum discussion is more confusing than helpful, and the link which BROWNTOA gave me as the MSE view, contains no mention of it!! Trying to read between the lines though, UW is not so competitive and their cutomer service is variable, so it is really just a case of you pays your money and takes your choice. However, I would be loathe to be a distributor and try to get friends/family (or anyone come to that) to sign up to something that is not necessarily the best deal for them, just so that I can make a few pence.
I'm hoping you have personally made sure every one of your friends, their friends, people you come into contact with every day, your neighbours, their neighbours, your neighbour's friends, that elderly couple down the way etc etc are signed up to the very cheapest tariff for them  . OK, I'm playing devil's advocate but what I'm trying to say is VERY FEW people could be arsed doing this in their own time and for no recompense. Even Saint Martinis, I suspect, well rewarded for his efforts (don't begrudge him that at all, btw)
In the meantime, I'm suspecting a massive proportion of these friends/acqaintances/neighbours/relatives etc will be needlessly paying much more than they should on rip-off standad rate tariffs (and most of them would STILL pay much less with UW than their current tariff). In this scenario, UW distributors are incenticised to get these people to sign up on the (definitely much cheaper) UW tariff. They save money they probably would never have saved before, the UW distributor is financially rewarded. Who's wrong?Call me Carmine....

Thanks for your reply, and also I'd like to thank all the people who have kindly replied to my original post.
As it is obvious that you are a UW distributor I'm not surprised with the defensive tone of your response. The point you are making seems to be regarding personal responsibility, but one can only be held responsible for something one does, not something one does not do. If my friends and family are not on a good tariff it is not my fault, but if I was to put them on to something under false pretences, and not tell them that there are better alternatives, then I would be responsible and my conscience wouldn't allow that. Can you honestly tell me that you put all alternatives in front of people, and that UW training mandates you do that?0 -

LOL! What I'm saying is, unless you have personally got all your friends on the cheapest tariff for them, and for no recompense, then your 'moral' argument is fatally flawed! If ANY of your friends are paying too much for their gas and electricity and you know they are, then why haven't you got them to change?
PS I have made it entirely clear on here several times that I am NOT and never have been either a UW customer or distributor. If you'd done your homework you would have seen that I am currently on BG Click 5 but I adopt the serial cashback/switching theory and usually pocket approx £250 per year this way. My point on these threads is there are people making points that don't stand up to how they personally go about things, i.e. their friends remain on very expensive tariffs becuase they can't be arsed to advise them otherwise.Call me Carmine....

You're absolutely right Kim, with such illogical responses there is no point in further discussion. I will no longer be responding to this thread - I've learnt enough, and I've changed my mind about forum discussions as they do provide good answers, if in a slightly long-winded fashion.0 -

Bye :rotfl: . Don't forget to get your friends paying less gas and electricity. After all, that's what friends are for.Call me Carmine....

After i saw this thread, this was one company that i had overlooked myself.
I read through their pages of churn, they basically state to be cheaper than your local supplier etc.., for example for electricity / yorkshire, that is npower and they state to beat british gas for gas. Normally british gas is very expensive anyway. In fact for my area, they are the most expensive and less than £10 difference between my home supplier for the gas, which again is expensive.
What they dont state, is that all / most suppliers rates / tariffs are usually expensive in the first place for their home area. So even though they sound ok, what you actually save is very little, and you would be far better going to a supplier who is cheap / competitive for your area anyway. Of course I made calculations based on my own circumstances and compared against the rest of the other companies. They were cheaper than my home supplier for electric, but not cheaper than the others.
In other words, I found them to be expensive !!0
