    And what's wrong with Birmingham??

We have a wonderful German Market - it comes over from Frankfurt every year. We have some fantastic shops as well as hotels and there is plenty to do.

If you like small places to go shopping, you could try Cheltenham or even Worcester, Shrewbury is a good place too.

    Warwick
    Dorchester
Salisbury (this is great, has a cathedral, close to Stonehenge)
  • York is lovely throughout the Christmas period. It's almost like stepping back in time wandering round all the cobbled streets. For more serious shopping the McArthur Glen shopping outlet is not far out of the city.

  • hi all bath was my first choice dont want to drive down but the train fares are hitting a hundred each from the n/e,york is only a stones throw away even though its a wonderful place.sorry brummies there nothing wrong with brum but you never know might try it, glasgow might be an option looks really cool was told about oxford but i dont know.
  • Same problem as me! We've gone to Edinburgh the weekend before Christmas to shop and sightsee, but now we've pretty seen everything in Edinburgh.

We have friends who moved to York, so we've been a few times and we're thinking of a long weekend there instead this year. York is a lovely place and imagine it would be similar to Edinburgh at Christmas.

Maybe try Warwick? We've always fancied going there, as we enjoy looking at old castles etc...

Depends on the part of the country you are thinking of, but I agree with the others who have said York.

Alternatively Bath and Salisbury are both great too, but York would be my first choice as it is so large and has such a wide range of shops not just the normal high street ones.
