PC World head office sent a fax out before opening to all stores yesterday (which was shown to me when I tried).

It makes it clear that as the Morrisons price has a condition attached (one copy of each title per customer) it is not a valid price for the price match.
What kind of reason is that!? What next, we don't price match stores beginning with 'M'?
  • The deputy manager in the Edinburgh store was absolutely fantastic - I had to remind him it was all stores within 30 miles and he checked his sign but after that he phoned round at least 10 of the local Morrisons stores with my games list until he found each and every game in stock . All in all, about half an hour of his time and one very happy customer :)
  • This is my first ever post so please go easy on me!

I went to my local PC World yesterday and the manager insisted that I had printed evidence of the cheap games at Morrisons. Despite my protests & careful negotiation he wouldn't budge. I wanted Mario Kart for the Wii.

I went in again this morning, before work, and managed to find a different manager who decided to honour the Price Match. However, she said she needed to verify that the price was accurate and that a local Morrisons had stock of the game. I knew none of my local Morrisons had the game in stock, but she explained that she didn't have time to contact all of the branches in a 30 mile radius (whose telephone numbers I had already printed out for her). So she let me have the game with the Price Promise. I seized the opportunity to ask for Super Mario Galaxy too and got both games for £26.50 - including the wheel for Mario!

Be warned, however, that I tried to blag two other games from another PC World later in the day, but this time the manager asked an assistant to ring round the local Morrisons while I waited. Since the games were non-chart games, that Morrisons didn't stock, they wouldn't match the price.

So my advice is: try to catch PC world when they are short-staffed or harassed - they might just offer you the price match anyway.
  • Well done monkeyd. I am glad that at least a few people have managed to rightfully get the so called price promise from pcworld and help bear out the fact that I did indeed get my items price matched at the Halifax branch of PCworld despite one poster who doubted me - I can try and scan my receipt in for anyone interested. To those who have not, or only got an online price match, but without the extra 10%, I do really hope you at least write in to complain, or report them to trading standards. They are very clearly breaking trading standards laws, misrepresenting their pricing structure and it is absolutely disgusting they are making people feel like criminals for asking, and their slogan should really be:

"we will not be beaten on price - unless our competitor's price happens to be lower than ours" ;)

It is humiliating and frustrating to find yourself refused and argued with when you are clearly in the right and only applying their own terms which say nothing about excluding "sale items" or any other of the many excuses they seem to be using.
I have gained from advice as well as bargains here, so if I can help in any way, I am only too pleased to do so and appreciate your thanks.
  • Well PC World phone line people want to stick to one story then. I phoned up last night. They did not mention anything about Morrisons not being an electrical store. They just said that they cannot price match because Morrisons were selling them at a 'sale' price and not retail price.
The thing is on their page of 'won't be beaten on price', they do not mention anything about 'except sale prices'.
I think they are just saying anything to avoid price matching.

I posted this the other day. I thought I would go to my local store today armed with their offer in hand (paperwork with PC World's advert of won't be beaten). I also a list of Morrisons in the 30 mile area. The guy had a different story (yet another one). If I could print off Morrisons advert with the price and then he will match it. I said these are the phone numbers and he said he is not prepared to ring around.
I've looked on Morrisons website, but no mention of Wii offers.
Anybody any ideas how to print off the offer of Morrisons games??? Don't think I could print off this forum as proof - LOL.
  • The terms and conditions of the PC World price match state that 'once the price is verified' they will offer the deal.

The question is HOW they choose to verify it. Even if we could find a printed advert of the deal (apparently there was one in the Daily Express on Monday) they may then also choose to check stock levels at local stores to wriggle out of the promise anyway.

There seems to be over use of individual and inconsistent manager's discretion at PC World regarding the Price Promise. Once again, it may be worth trying at different times of the day...

the one in aberdeen would have price matched if they had any of the games in stock.
Aberdeen morrisons had very little games and would not reserve any at all they were quite rude about it too
  • I don't know how to 'print off' the offer, but maybe a mobile camera shot of morrisons poster printed out on your pc might do? - just an idea.

  • After checking my Morrisons' new stock this afternoon (only Tiger Woods in) I dragged myself reluctantly over to PC World (Stirling) fully expecting an embarrassing rebuffal cos I'm no good at this haggling malarky. However, although the lovely manager (I'll call him Christopher, cos that's what his badge said) knew nothing about the offer, he said yes they would match it but he'd have to check it first. Luckily for me this didn't mean he checked stock, but only rang the store to check what the offer was, so I walked off with Mario Galaxy for £13.50 and Mario Kart DS for £10.50 (the girl on the counter couldn't work out 10% of £13, bless her). Well chuffed. :D

By the way, I think the PC World chart is different so this might give a larger range of games - I guess you could work it to your advantage if it's on their chart but not Morrisons, or vice-versa. :o
If I hadn't seen such riches, I could live with being poor...
