Cor blimey this threads getting a bit personal!
can we get back to the property discussion please:j Where there is a will there is a way - there is a way and I will find it :j0 -
Thanks Rumbaba sounds lovely :jI'm sorry - I missed your post,
Banstead is a lovely part of Surrey. There's lots of large detached houses in quiet tree lined roads and as it's so green there the gardens are usually enormous and incredibly beautiful.
Most people who live there are professionals and it's common to see Bentley's, Ferrari's etc driving down the High Street. The High Street has the obligatory Waitrose and M&S food store. There's some lovely specialist food shops and some great boutiques. There's a few fabulous Italian and French restaurants there, and a lovely pub - The Mint - set down one of the country lanes which is very olde worlde and has little orange carriage lamps lit up at night. The food there is excellent, and it has a log fire, cosy seating etc...
There's livery stables in Banstead, plus a golf course and a couple of farm shops which sell their own home-grown organic fruit and veg, and real free-range eggs.
It's a very peaceful green part of England and being high up it has wonderful views of London in the distance from some of its roads. Central London is half an hour away so you can see the appeal for commuters.
I'm sure your friend will fall in love with the place.:j Where there is a will there is a way - there is a way and I will find it :j0 -

That sort of nasty little personal sleight is sadly too common here thanks to a hard core of 'the usual suspects'.--
Every pound less borrowed (to buy a house) is more than two pounds less to repay and more than three pounds less to earn, over the course of a typical mortgage.0 -

I quite like to gain an appreciation of other posters' backgrounds and experiences. It puts their opinions into context a bit and gives an idea as to whether the differences in their viewpoint could be social, geographical, educational or just different and better informed!
As to NDG particularly, not only was she lovely enough to leap to my support when she felt I had been unfairly 'PP-picked upon' but I enjoy her wit which scales from pleasurably acerbic to gently sunny.
As to Blackheath, my very first view of Blackheath was totally surreal. It was very late at night, and amazingly dark for London. I really DON'T know that side of London at all and so I was particularly amazed by the expanse of emptyness in the almost unbelievable for London dark night, broken up by what appeared to be an English village green with village/period houses out of nowhere, on the left as I drove into Town, was a funfair, and then, ven more surreal, the city on the right behind the beautiful houses. It was totally disjointed in the dark and like a dream sequence.
It was so amazing I stopped and took photos.

Good point. I agree. On here, many of you seem to come from London & the Home Counties, which may well have a bearing on certain perspectives. One that comes to mind is negative experiences with EAs.0 -

pickledpink is not another of DD's alter egos is it? Come on now, 'fess up!
Odd how you remonstrate with moanymoany for 'unpleasantness and then indulge in some of your own. Classy, yet hypocritical. I like it
For the record, I've never indulged in any unpleasantness with anyone who didn't indulge in it with me first. NDG, Generali, etc. don't get involved in spats and so you'll find that they get no digs from me.
I merely defend myself, but find that due to my rapier wit and higher intellect than most on here, I defend myself possibly a little too well. I did after all get !!!!!!? to admit that he's a bigot. That was a good days piece of work

Those properties are in the cheaper part of Banstead - they're going more towards Tadworth which is a mixture of nice roads, but also unattractive roads filled with drab council housing.
The nice part of Banstead, which goes towards Woodmansterne, Chipstead Valley and West Purley seems to be holding it price.
An example of a typical 5/bed in the nice part of Banstead is something like thishttp://www.rightmove.co.uk/viewdetails-14882630.rsp?pa_n=1&tr_t=buy
How very strange.
Oh-so-desirable and non-crashable Banstead you so admire, has today seen -£45,000 knocked off the price of the fine home you used to as an example to back up your position.
http://www.rightmove.co.uk/viewdetails-14882630.rsp?pa_n=1&tr_t=buy
-£45,000 in one shot. Oh but what does it matter if you bought at previous asking price so long as you're buying in for 10 years eh?
And I would argue there are a lot more reductions to come for your best of Banstead properties.0 -

So what? I like my parents, and I'm close to them. Not exactly my most serious character flaw....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

We aren't married, but I'm sure he'll be most grateful for your concern....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0
