Hehe, small typo there! Obviously I mean that PS2 games there won't work in your PS2.

That said, PSP games will work as they are not region encoded.

dont go to china town ever, ever,
its full of useless overpriced tack, the people in chinatown are all moneygrabbing !!!!!! who really arent worth spending any time with, they want to barter and tbh I just got sick of it. If you decide not to buy anything they will throw verbal abuse your way, and I mean abusive, that involves your mother and sexual acts.

go to meudin wholesale empourium in little India *they have other branches not sure where though* they sell the same stuff but its fixed prices and loads cheaper ( I mean loads cheaper than anywhere - its stupidly cheap)

You can make your way down to Petaling Jaya if you're into very HQ replicas of branded bags.
    I know nothing

I love Chinatown! You've got a good point about a lot of it being junk, but it's a fun experience nonetheless. I've never had any abuse from the stallholders when I've decided not to buy though, but I suppose it could happen.
  • We went to KL in October and had a FANTASTIC time.

As far as the DVDs are concerned, try the shops at the top of a shopping centre opposite Time Square shopping centre (??Berjaya plaza??). The quality of SOME of the DVD's is said to be excellent BUT...

IF you are going to buy pirated DVD's go for the 'dual layer' ones - they may cost 10p or so each more, but are superior quality.

We had a really great time in Chinatown. All of the vendors were good humoured, and manners appear to be appreciated - a polite 'no thankyou' and a smile and we never got any hassle after we walked away. If you're not prepared to have things pushed at you, don't go - they've got to attract your attention somehow!!

As for bargains, we didn't think that the electrical goods were THAT much cheaper than the UK - maybe 10-15% but not significantly so. Watches were excellent value, my husband saved £600 on his Omega compared to what it would have cost in the UK. We did buy an MP3 player, and it comes with an international warranty.

I'd love to go back again - really jealous!!

We went to the KL Tower at night for dinner - IMHO the city at night is far more beautiful than the city during the day.

I hope you didn't buy that watch in Chinatown!
  • If you buy dvd's you can see the quality as they have players to show you them on.
I bought a Gucci watch for £160 and it was in the jeweller at home for £600. I know it is real as I have sent it back to Gucci in the past for new battery.
i have never had hassle in chinatown although there is no doubt loads of the stuff is junk.I have also bought some really nice beaded bags there for peanuts.
    travelover
  • Thanks for all the advice, I have put it all into one Word document so that I can print it out and take it with me.

Almost time for the trip now, so starting to get a little excited.

    Any more tips very welcome.

    Cheers

Don't forget anything over £140 (or in total including gifts) and you'll pay VAT and duty unless you take the risk and you smuggle it back in.

Enjoy yourself it's a great city.
