Yearly Cat Booster Jabs - do you?

Options
I've had my cats yearly booster jab for feline leukemia etc for last 3 years, this year due to being away i've missed the reminder and its now a month overdue.

I've heard a lot of people state after 2 years there is no need to bother.

Do you?

  • Didn't mean to thank you by the way

But yes yes yes, I know of 2 cats who died from feline leukemia, very upsetting.

Always make sure my cat is up to date with her injections, also probably a requirement if you want to board them.

I missed them once but got it done as soon as I could. I doubt any cattery would take them if they are not up to date with the inoculations. The one I use certainly wouldn't

Not got a cat myself but if i did, and decided not to bother and my cat died then i would be devastated.
Life is about give and take, if you can't give why should you take?

Thanks for replies so far, i've heard the jabs can actually pose risk to the cats and overvacinating can actually have a negative effect?

hence i thought i'd double check before i get them done!
  • Lets look at the evidence....
Feline Leukaemia - no real need to bother after about 4yrs of age - I stop giving to patients after this time but dont offer any option before then.
Calicivirus - VERY NASTY and there is an even nastier strain out there at the moment - can be fatal - why would you NOT vaccinate (only if you are dumb).
Feline Rhinotracheitis - basis of Cat flu - quite severe if caught and tends to go in cycles - particularly debilitating in the older cat - put your pet through that - why?
Chlamydia - prevents that really sodding horrible conjunctivitis that cats get - make sure your vet uses the vaccine that includes this - I do
So all in all - keep them vaccinated or be a moron (your choice).

I read somewhere that they can have boosters up to 13 months from last jab - phone your vet and ask what the story is.

  • I'm afraid I'm a moron too. Never had jabs, never had any problems, but I can see the argument for getting it done. I know my cats have being stuffed in a box and going to the vet's so that is part of the equation for me too. I guess it makes a difference to their chances of catching things if you live in a highly cat populated area?
