Shameful Money Grabbing M & S

It's not unusually early either. I remember the Harrods Christmas shop opening during an August heatwave a copuple of years ago. (It hit the news, that's how I know
)

Agree its DFW to spread the cost, M&S are only doing what any other shop would do. Plus they are one of our nicest creditors.Barclaycard 3800

plus they also have really really nice cads, and you can now get vouchers through pigsback for them should you so wish :beer: Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
I remember when I worked in high st retail and we used to laugh and joke the day that we would put Xmas product out on the shop floor about this time of year- but women would buy it straight away as if it was December 24th, I would often joke with them and many would tell me proudly that they would have everything wrapped and paid for by August, and how they would start shopping in the January sales for that year. I admire their forward planning but as a bloke would never do it myself. Godd luck to them all !0

surely there wont be enough room for xmas goodie display yet - there's haloween first!
i feel shops do put stuff out too early, and it spoils the fun- xmas day becomes bit of a let down after beng 'used' to all the sights for months beforehand.
thee is one good(?) thing, usually from late Nov/early Dec- several houses in town do put on some OTT xmas decorations- completely covering the gardens, walls etc with santa's, snowmen, sleighs, reindeers, the works!
but with electric prices through the roof, i wonder if (how!) they would do as much this time around..Long time away from MSE, been dealing real life stuff..

Well i've already bought my tree and lights so have started early!
Did however work for a supermarket for 13 years and by the time Christmas actually arrives you've had a nervous breakdown due to the amount of Donny Osmond you've heard over the tannoy system!
I think for one the magic of Christmas has gone, should start December the 1st!
And you should just get nuts in your stockings on Xmas morning. Or is that just me lolSadly, you don't have any badges yet but keep trying! See what you could get........... oh boo hoo I am crying into my wine.0 -
It is very easy to tell when it is Christmas!
That is when all the Easter eggs start appearing in the shops.:rolleyes:0 -
Interesting to hear all the different viewpoints, whether posters are DFW ( as in Debt Free Wannabes not just visitors to the DFW forum
) or not.
I agree as to M&S cards but I still have loads left from sales last year, which if I remember right were actually occurring before Christmas - round here anyway.
I have a new policy re cards anyway : I dont send them to people I will be seeing, it's a waste of trees  DD's school has also set up a system on the schools pc's whereby the kids can send ecards to eachother rather than approx 4800  cards floating around the school ( & that figure is just based on 20 kids from each class sending out 20, most of the classes have 30 kids )
I do wonder how many people who spend excessively at Christmas are actually Christians who spend at least part of Christmas Day worshipping in a church ?
In no way am I disrespecting those people who are; that is what bugs me about this huge dash for Christmas consumption, so many people just blindly & unthinkingly spend because that's what they are enticed & encouraged to do by retailers & the media. It is such a huge waste & the total environmental impact must be enormous ?
Now someone's going to tell me to hop over to the 'green' board I bet

I make my own cards and have to start now as otherwise would not be able to get them all done in time (have a DS aged 1!). Craft shops and places have their Christmas stuff in nice and early.
I agree that it allows people to spread the cost too, and I also agree that noone is forcing anyone to buy anything either.
It's the rubbish music that annoys me (hymns and carols are nice though), it is always too soon for that!
PS I am a Christian and it makes me sad to see how commercial Christmas has become, as if its celebrating consumerism and not the real meaning any more!
PPS Am not a DFW (which I am very thankful for) and not posted on here very much, although I do pop onto DFW as its an interesting board- great to see people pulling together and helping each other, and there are often very good tips- afterall if you are trying to reduce your debt by paying it off you are undoubtedly also trying to reduce out-goings/increase income and so this is useful to someone like me trying to survive on a budget iykwim.Ermutigung wirkt immer besser als Verurteilung.

Hey Will!! How's life?
Lula, I can vouch for this guy - he introduced me to this board back in 2006 so I can def say I owe him a drink for having saved me my sanity and indirectly has helped to pay off a whole chunk of my debt.........def a DFW!Successful women can still have their feet on the ground.
