I agree we don't have to buy it yet, what gets me is trying to explain to a 5 year old that is thrilled to see Christmas stuff appearing and naturally assumes that must mean that it must be Christmas-time that actually Christmas isn't any time soon at all  :mad:Mortgage Total: £50,720/ £75,000

Thanks Willsnarf, I gather that neither you or withabix are regulars on this thread or DFW s
Lula-Hula
isn't this more appropriate to the 'Consumer Vent' Board though?0 -
Thanks Willsnarf, I gather that neither you or withabix are regulars on this thread or DFW s
A bit presumptious of you there wasn't it, how about you look through my posts and see where the majority have been and then you may change your tune!
I'll wait for the apology then

It's not unusually early either. I remember the Harrods Christmas shop opening during an August heatwave a copuple of years ago. (It hit the news, that's how I know

Yeh, you're probably right, kinda wish I hadnt started now
No sweat, Lula, I guess people tend to post where they read/post the most.;)
I must admit when I was in a card shop looking for a birthday card a couple of weeks ago, I did say to another shopper 'Christmas cards ALREADY?'
It just didn't bother me enough to worry about.0 -

I dislike it when products for Christmas are displayed early too but I'm afraid that it's the consumers who have led the retailers to push the Christmas period earlier and not the other way around. Besides which I suppose that it's actually quite sensible (and DFW) in some ways to spread the cost over a number of weeks.
It doesn't affect my spending though because for one, I think that too much of made of Christmas, I only spend what I can afford, and I'm not religious. I suppose that I do feel a bit sorry for families with young children, but then again it's never a good idea to spend a fortune whatever your budget- to me it's setting up problems for the future. One family I used to know weren't particularly well off but used to spend up to £500 on each other every year, it turned into a competition to who could spend the most. These were young adults but I think that the impetus to spend so much had be started off a few years before by their parents- and I don't think that it did them any favours.
Lastly retailers are also struggling and some have already gone to the wall this year with many jobs lost, so I can't blame them for doing what they feel they need to to keep business going, that's not immoral, it's just good business practise. It's up to us the customers to be sensible and make good choices as to what we do with our money.
Oh, and I don't have a sig either but I have still posted on the DFW board before.0
