Always used to make me laugh when we sold. Certain agents sending frequent letters asking us to switch to them and their waiting buyers, as if they had a unique group of clients who never used Rightmove or other agents.

As for the local market, asking prices are still higher than last year, but with very few sales. A bit of a stand-off between buyers and sellers both happy to wait and see.
    Been away for a while.

Stopping on the way home on Friday to buy some fish & chips in a distant town, I noticed an EA's window which was stuffed with details sheets with 'Sold' plastered across them. Not being local, I didn't know when they'd been sold, but either this area was in a 2007 time warp, or the agent was being disingenuous in suggesting, however subliminally, that these were all recent transactions.

If it had been my agent I'd have given him notice of termination on the spot for using the prime place in the window for that, rather than putting my property's details there. After all, as they say in Asda, 'When it's gone, it's gone.'

    Another example of BS.
  • Well we're putting ours on the market next week so i'll let you know! :) Wish us luck!

But at the moment with so few properties coming onto the market, it may make the ones who want to sell ask that EA to market their property. I know I wanted to go with an EA that could sell properties and having a lot of sold signs in their window would influence me. But then I can be easily led:rotfl:

But as it is Estate Agents who do it and Estate Agents who benefit, I am not influenced by it. I think it is only indicative of the real state of the market insofar as it says things are bad.
Yep, just typical estate agent dishonesty

It is just another variation on the old barrow-boy routine, where half the stuff they are 'selling' is going to ficticious customers and the other half to people drawn in by the false sales. Properties displayed now, but actually sold in 2007, might as well be in another country for all the relevance they have.

That isn't what I'm implying. Indeed, it would only be a very naive sort of person who'd expect EAs not to project some air of 'normality.' After all, the situation is pretty dire all round.
