Overdrafts - natwest

My Bank(natwest) keep upping my overdraft but refuse to give me a credit card -why is that?
BTW the recent overdraft increase was from £2600 - £4000:think:

Now of course they send me a thing saying if I don't want it to send back the little slip but seems silly not to accept it. I don't live at the bottom of my overdraft either.

Anyone shed any light as to why they behave in this way?
Got Halifax Classic to reduce my interest rate by 5% woohoo - 10/06/08 Thanks MSE!

  • Using an overdraft incurs interest as soon as it's used. A credit card (paid off in full every month) doesn't incur interest until a bill isn't paid in full.

Not that I'm at all cynical...

When did you last apply and why were you declined? (credit scoring, credit history, affordability...) The decline could be due to something as silly as you living in a new build house and the post code not being properly registered with the system!

Perhaps you should stop upping your overdraft limit. It seems that the bank would be more likely to give you a £2k overdraft and £2k card than a £4k overdraft and a £2k card, for example.

An action that's more likely to succeed is to go in for an appointment and arrange a (say) 3K reduction in overdraft in exchange for a 3K limit on a credit card.

I might write to them and suggest that actually. Thanks for your advice.

Umm, I think it was about 6 months ago but tbh, I don't have a sparkling credit file so am continuously surprised that they do this. I think they cited affordability:confused:

LOL It does seem the most likely option I must admit!

I don't keep upping it, that's the point - it appears to be an automatic thing they do themselves. I only know about it when they send me a letter and they apply it about 14 days later.

I would suggest that Natwest have managed to blend a fatal combination of idiocy, and pure evil.

I've also been declined for a credit card, and the reason apparently was because I use my interest free overdraft, which THEY suggested I have.

Natwest staff are some of the most irritating, complacent and stupid people I have ever met. I'm a planning a strategic move away from them very shortly.
