  • You should have just named the bakery. Almost 1000 people have read this, so 1000 people would have been given the memory of that particular bakery not being a very good employer to work for. Name and shame is always the best way. Hence the reason many companies will go out of their way to compensate it's customers when things go wrong to stop any bad word of mouth generating from it.

  • If they don't get in touch with you like they promised I would be ring them about 3pm. Just becareful they are not trying to stall in regards to stopping you lodging a claim with ET.

I'd give them all day today and ring at 9 am tomorrow. It does sound like they are trying to be fair at area level but the area manager probably has to get it approved by someone high in HR because of the legal implications to the company. Can't say I blame your daughter-I wouldn't want to go back either.
I can think of several companys it could be so I'm not going to speculate at this point.:)

My daughter is 16 so the 2 hours on a sunday does not apply.

Also according to the government a young worker must get 30 minutes break if they work more than 4.5 hours in a day, this break must not be taken at the start or end of a shift.

Even if they work 8 hours legally they are only entitled to a 30 minute break. Tea breaks are not official so there is no law regarding this. However, its up to the company to whether they give tea breaks.

I think that's true for over 16s but I thought you said that your daughter was only 15 when she first started working there and, from what you wrote in your OP, it sounded as if she has always done these hours even when she was classed as a child. That means that for the period between her starting and qualifying as a 'young person' last June the laws for under 16 should have applied.

sorry my daughter did begin work with them when she was 15, but to be honest i cannot remember her hours then.

When my son started work at 15 he was only allowed to work 2 hours on a sunday, so im guessing if my daughter worked then we would have been aware she could only work 2 hours. My son is older so he worked first.

that was part of the problem yes.

she got her dates mixed up for college so she asked for time off to go to college. basically it was a week toearly so she informed them and she went back to work and had the next week off.

that was just a mix up with dates, also we could not get in touch with the college to make sure what actual dates she started because it was bank holiday weekend.

This little problem was sorted out without fuss really, my wife even rang her boss to explain the date mix up, it purely was not our fault the college did not give procise dates when she started.
