am asking for a friend as its all very confusing trying to work it out thot u guys might be able to simplify it for us
at the moment she claims long term IB and gets DLA higher mobilty, lower care... her partner works p/time and gets a small pension from a prev job.. there is 1 child at school, they get CTC but not WFTC
so would she be better off on IS with disability as it leads to free school dinners etc or is this not possible if u have a partner or can u not change from one to other
have been reading up but neither of us can seem to find an answer that covers this scenario
thanks very much in advance to anyone who can clear the fog slightly

iF She claims income support as a parent which is around £86/week, she would face a slight drop in income as incapacity benefit is £104/week. She can off-set this difference with the free lunch, rent, council tax, free prescription, etc that she would be entitled to on income support.WHAT I SAID NEVER CHANGED ANYONE, WHAT THEY UNDERSTOOD DID:A0

Where are you getting the figure of £104/wk IB from. My Mum gets £840

You cannot choose if you are paid IB or IS. If you are entitled to IB you receive that, if not you receive IS on the grounds of Incapacity.
At the moment long term IB with higher age addition is £102.25 per week.0 -

You can claim IS on grounds of being a parent, a carer, incapacity and one or two other grounds that I cannot remember off the top of my head. You are allowed to claim income support as a parent until your last born is 16 years old but the law is being changed.
My bad about the £104 figure, you are right it's £102.25WHAT I SAID NEVER CHANGED ANYONE, WHAT THEY UNDERSTOOD DID:A0 -

You can claim IS for those reasons but you cannot choose IS if you qualify for IB.0 -

I did. Changed from long-term IB to IS in May 2008.
Asked to fill in an IB50 form, panicked and requested to be put on IS. Got a call to tell me I would be taking a drop in income . . . as if they cared
This made me more determined . . . passed the IB test though
Also got asked if I was no longer incapacitated, told then I still was, but that I just preferred to claim as a parent.WHAT I SAID NEVER CHANGED ANYONE, WHAT THEY UNDERSTOOD DID:A0
