Ah yes may help!! It is a vinyl one in our kitchen..thanks!
  • We got some edging strip from Homebase - I think they do it in pine or white. We got white 'cos the units are white. It's stocked by the flooring. I forget the price but it was quite reasonable for a long length. You just peel off the backing tape and one bit sticks to the floor and the other the skirting board. If you can't picture what I mean, I'd describe it as looking like miniature coving!

It will depend on how the flooring is laid.. if it runs underneath the kitchen cupboard kickboards then I don't think they seal that but if its to butt up to the skirting boards then it can be sealed with clear mastic/silicone stuff... (not sure what its called) thats what we did in the bathroom and it works perfectly...
Someone will be along to put you right I am sure..

Hi thanks for the replys, yes TravellingAbuela that is what i mean, i am very picky though and although the white may be easy to find i suspect the wood units we have in the kitchen will be harder to match!(pearwood), we have the same stuff round our wooden floors in the rest of the house and it looks very smart!

tanith we have had it done up to the units and not under them, again as neat as it looks as soon as water gets near im sure it won't last mong so need something down. I don't like sealant as a rule as looks a mess not long after it is put down so thought this was another option.
  • Hi gabyjane

Sorry for barging in on your thread a bit but we're just in the process of getting quotes for vinly on our kitchen floor and the first person to come advised it needs to be sealed as well as levelled.

The levelling bit is fair enough as it is uneven but not sure about sealed as in sealed underneathe the vinyl.

Did you have either levelling or sealing done underneath?

    Ta!

Hi we have a new build and have had the floor redone as we have upgraded it so yes it has been levelled, but we have not had it sealed round the edges which i think may be a prob after a while when i have mopped it a few times, i bought some beading from focus today and need to gloss it and put down in the dining room end then find some for the kitchen end, tbh they would have prbably only put sealant round which i don't like anyway so will do it myself!!
  • Who do you get in to level a kitchen floor, builder?
I have just had my house replastered, the kitchen floor is bitumen but under the sink area there is an area cut out about half an inch lower. Can I do it myself?? I want vinyl on my kitchen floor as I hate having a noisy wooden or tile floor. My new kitchen sink unit is the ikea varde range and its freestanding.

Pity he does not live up near me. I could do with someone who can do that.
