Warning - Barclays phishing email targeting our comp accounts!

Hi guys, not sure if i've put this in the right place.

I received an email this morning which appears to be from Barclays bank to my comping email account. (i don't bank with Barclays)

I'd normally ignore and delete these, but this one had my name, address and mobile phone number included in it!!!!

It means that somehow the fraudsters have either hacked into or been sold our information by one of the competition sites where we have entered!

If you receive this please please do not respond to it as they are just trying to get your banking details. I just hope nobody has fallen for it already.

I had one from Hawaiian Airlines entitled 'Your Online Flight Ticket N 18807'!
    Good day,
Thank you for using our new service "Buy flight ticket Online" on our website.
    Your account has been created:

    Your login: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
    Your password: xxxxxxxxx

Your credit card has been charged for $624.75.
We would like to remind you that whenever you order tickets on our website you get a discount of 10%!
Attached to this message is the purchase Invoice and the flight ticket.
To use your ticket, simply print it on a color printed, and you are set to take off for the journey!

    Kind regards,
    Hawaiian Airlines

I'm assuming there's a virus in the attachment because I certainly didn't book any tickets and thankfully, no money has been taken out of any of my accounts - I checked them on my lappy in case opening the mail alone had downloaded a virus which would be able to see any passwords I entered!

I had 2 from diffrent banks, saying if i didn`t update my details they would close my accounts within 24 hours, the worrying thing is they were banks i actually bank with. but i dont do online banking so they got deleted, the email address they came through on is the mail address i use for comping. i have a separate email for friends and family

Ive had a number of these, especially from Halifax who I dont bank with, all asking for personal details, so everyone beware

  • same here - abbey, barcleys etc etc and i dont use onmline banking

  • I think the reason i was so concerned about this is that they actually had my personal details.

I've never had that before and am pretty angry as it means someone somewhere hasn't been very careful with our information!

Whenever I get an e-mail like that, that I'm not sure about, I hovver over the link they want you to click on and check the address on the status bar. If it's genuine it will show up a genuine url, usually it's not genuine and you can tell by the url it looks nothing like a bank would use.
