in Credit cards
Aargh....Im so annoyed (mainly with myself) but i went over my credit limit by £200 on my 0% Halifax card and they stopped my 0% rate this month. I had no idea why until i rang and the guy i spoke to said this was a per my terms and conditions ( written in v small writing) .This means i have to pay it all back by the end of sept and not March as i was expecting. I tried to get him to reinstate it as I paid £300 off straight away but oh no its not possible....
Does anyone have any experience of this and have any ideas how i get them to change their mind?

This is common place now a days i'm afraid. There are only certain circumstances where the 0% can be reinstated such as an error by the Halifax.
You could either transfer the balance off to another card (if possible) or make a complaint, but I don't think that they will reinstate it.
How much longer were you due to have the 0% for?Regards, Robin.2011 MFW # 34

I'm very sorry but this is simply a case of: "Let that be a lesson to you". This really was a deal-breaker as far as the promotional rate was concerned. Maybe card issuers add these conditions whereby you lose the deal whenever you make a mistake and they can 'clean up' - in fact I'm sure that's why they do it. But that simply means you must take full charge of the account - especially regarding the credit limit and keep to the terms at all times.
[Sorry!].....under construction.... COVID is a [discontinued] scam0 -
Going by £200 over your Credit Limit is not such an insignificant amount that you can plead an oversight, as you could, had you exceeded your limit by a quid or two. It would signal to me, that your finances are in melt-down and you are out of control. Not someone I would want a long-term relationship with, if I were a Credit Card.
You can try phoning, pleading a easily-made mistake, but I doubt they will buy it.0 -
They've just done this to me too - and not by a couple of quid, infact they let me put my £109 travel card on there so they're obviously not checking the limit themselves. Yes it's partly my fault but I spend a fair chunk of money on the card each month and don't know within £100 if I'm near the end of my limit but they should really have declined the transaction I think it's negligence/greed on their behalf. Luckily I can afford to pay the balance in full.0

People need to take more responsibility over their limits & be aware of what they're spending on the card. Card companies are there to make money, just stay in line to their terms & conditions and play them at their own game.

I'm mad too as just discovered on recent statement that Halifax have charged full interest on my 0% 15 month account - when we rang we were told that it was because we were late in meeting the full minimum payment last month - so they took away our benefits, without any warning, and I can't even find mention of the possibility in any smallprint. They also charged us £12. I'm closing the account, and will be claiming back the interest charged. Did you have any luck with the follow up?0

See section 3.2 (last para) of your T&C's/credit agreement...coffee_drinker wrote: »...I can't even find mention of the possibility in any smallprint. We may apply the standard interest rate to balance transfers or purchases before the end of the special promotion period if in any month you do not make at least your minimum payment by the payment date or if you exceed your credit limit at any time.0 -
It's a shame for any one who lost this card as it's a bit of a Stooze card .I think it was 13 months interest free .finishes December .
But the company is giving you something ..If you can't be careful when you use it you will end up losing the benefit0 -

I think it's entirely your fault..... you should look after your own finances. Not knowing if your within £100 of your limit or not is a bit worrying, good job you could pay it all off.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no. 784 - Proud to be dealing with my debts0 -

I've had a similar thing. I had a standing order set up for the minimum amount but they changed the t+cs (yes, I didnt read them!) and the amount was short one month so they did the same to me. Yes, I know I should have paid DD not SO.
Anyway, to cut a long story short, I got my story in the Mail on sunday and the company in question, MBNA, changed it all back for me.
So, its worth complaining and trying it with them.0
