  • Why would anyone be taken to court? The BPI themselves have actually gone on record to say they would never prosecute for it and they themselves are lobbying for the change in the law to legalise what everyone does anyway.
Would it help if I said I forgot to add a smilie a the end of my post?

I think, TBH, that the legalities would never, ever, be an issue...hence the suggestion....but it would be good if the law finally caught up with reality. Let's face it, you've already paid for the stuff, what difference does it make how you listen to it ???

just got our daughter cheap mp3 player for her birthday. want to put some "pop" songs on it before wrapping it. she is about to be six and just getting into music!

which is a good site to use. i tunes only for i pods and some others i have found are subscription only.

The problem you will encounter is that for chart stuff, you won't get it free and legally.

The free music sites listed above usually contain older music, new and upcoming bands, and less popular genres. You might still find some tracks that are OK though.

If you've only bought a cheap MP3 player, chances are it will only play MP3 and WMA. If you go and buy and download a few tracks from legal UK places like Woolworths, HMV and MSN music, the songs come as protected WMA files.
Chances are that your cheap player won't play these protected files.
The solution there is to strip the protection off (something we can't discuss here) or burn and then rip back of a CD.

    Hope this helps a bit.

Except for www.we7.com mentioned above (even if you can't download it you can listen online to to entire albums).

    Play.com's mp3s don't have any DRM.

she doesn't have any CDs - she is only just six!! thought rather than buy her a CD player and have her start collecting CDs we may as well do the modern equivalent so got her an mp3 player (pink Samsung one approx £30)

Was not expecting to download music for free but just didn't want to sign up to monthly subscription, just wanted to pay for the tracks we buy when we buy them. Was just after best site for that.
