ahhhh drivers m8.... now this would be a good place for me to start, i could get all the info needed to get my drivers licence myself, from someone that actually does the job, all the break laws can be very confusing to just read in a book, i have the theory book for the class C1+ which is what i would ideally like to get when funds permitt, this means i can drive any rigid vehicle with a trailer of upto 750kg (I think thats the correct weight) and it's huge, my brain just can't take it in when reading it.... could kill 2 birds with 1 stone this way perhaps0

We use Driver Hire and another firm called needadriver all the time to fill in for staff shortages.
All the drivers love our place,in fact 3 have just been taken on full time by ourselves.
You can work for either without the 7.5 t reqiurement as far as I know,it's just that the hourly rate may be slightly less.exessexmum wrote:My OH worked for Driverhire for about 3 months when he got made redundant a couple of years ago and they were excellent, kept him in full time work and the pay was okay too. You need a C class licence on your driving licence to drive 7.5 tonners, if you are over a certain age you have it by right as it used to be automatic when you passed your test, I am thirtymumble and have it. BUT you can work for driverhire as a drivers mate. This means you don't actually drive but you help the driver with loading and unloading of the goods, its hard physical work but the pay is pretty good and theres normally plenty of work going.
Good luck

Just a thought, how about training to become a fork lift driver? They are usually in demand, and you can earn up to £10 per hour. You may be able to get the course paid for by a prospective employer or even the job centre.
Even if that doesn't appeal to you, have a chat to your local job centre and explain what you are currently doing and tell them the kind of thing you want to do. They can usually provide helpful advice and may be able to put you forward for various free or subsidised training courses.
I have suffered from depression myself and I know how hard it is to build up your self esteem afterwards. You need to learn to sell yourself and "talk yourself up" in job interviews, the job centre or a recruitment agency will be able to help you learn good interview techniques.
Just a word of advice, I NEVER mention the depression in a job interview...I may state I was ill for a period of time but some prospective employers really dont understand, so I see no reason to go into detail ad scare them. I stick to the positives!
Good luck! You can do this! :TDebt 2007 £17k

unfortunalty even before the depression i was never any good at selling myself (oh my that sounds rather bad) i just consider myself to be a regular joe, i'm no better than the guy/gal they saw before me or are gonna see after... is a tough bridge to cross, my brother in law is king at it and has blagged his way through to a impressive level in his choosen proffesion.
normally it's not too bad, i know it failed me at my last interview though because they specifically asked me how i would merchandise myself (it was a factory job) and i just sat there and was like..errrr ummmmm errrrrr. the job i have no doubt i could have done in my sleep and was more than qualified in the factory line to be able to do it.0 -
Try pretending you are doing a reference for someone else " joe Bloggs is reliable, honest ,punctual, loyal, hardworking , enthusiastic, creative, painstaking, etc etc - whatever is appropriate."This site is addictive!"

would some one be willing to look over my CV, i have just been looking at some online help regarding CV's and Covering letters and i must say, mine now looks as though i haven't a clue0

My OH worked for two driving agencies at the same time over the last year and was reasonably sure to get something from one of them on any given day. The two agencies were Driver Hire and Prime Time and it's worth considering running two together like that - the only downside is that you have to get your P-45 when you switch between jobs and will end up paying a lot of emergency tax!
Have you thought about walking down your local high street with a stack of CVs to hand in to every agency you pass? A lot of agencies you wouldn't suspect will take on drivers and others (like Adecco) will take on experienced factory workers willing to do odd shifts. It's also worth telling agencies every job you've ever had / course you've ever been on / GCSE you've ever studies for too - I've had temp jobs that I didn't have the qualifications for because I'd done something related before.
If you seriously want someone to look over your CV and application letters then I'm willing to give it a go. I'm not promising that I'll be able to improve it but I've just had to update my details and CV to apply for a promotion. If nothing else at least I've still got employer impressing terms going through my head!

Everyone thinks their CV looks rubbish! It's like looking at yourself in the mirror and deciding that the zit on your nose is the size of Ben Nevis when no one else has actually spotted it :rotfl:
Feel free to e-mail me if you want a hand (the address is listed in my profile).Mentalminis wrote:i have already signed up to all the agencys in my local town and surrounding agencys, every monday morning without fail i call them all in turn to ask if anything new has come in and every monday morning they tell me there isn't it's very sole destroying i can tell you..... still we must push on i realise that, although am finding it quicker to find the work myself..lol
Make sure that they have the most up to date details about what you have done. You have my sympathies about running in circles keeping the agencies moving. There are times when it seems like they exist only to advertise jobs and not actually recruit for them!
