I want to get rid of something

Basically I'm renting unfurnished but have no inventory, at the owners wish!
Anyway, when I moved in I was aware there were 2 wardrobes, ghastly things, but there is also a grotty old chest of drawers that I was not aware of. Now the owner has never lived here and to be honest I don't think it's hers at it doesn't match the wardrobes and just seems an odd item. My own guess is an old tenant left it as it's quiite heavy and pretty crap.
Anyway I want to chuck it. It's taking up a lot of room and isn't needed. Now, the agent doesn't know it's here, I'm pretty sure and well there is no inventory anyway.
I know you will say, phone the agent and get him to find out if it is the owners, but then I run the risk of her saying yes just so she gains an extra piece of furniture.
I know morally it's wrong to chuck it but I'm not feeling in the slightest moral at the moment.
Anyone got any advice or think of any pitfalls I've not considered? If I did chuck it and it was hers obviously I'd be happy to pay for it. In fact I'd be happy to replace the wardrobes aswell if they went missing!

If there's no inventory, they cannot prove anything was was in the house when you moved in so you are basically home free with your plan.
if you have any suspicion the LL may give you grief when you leave this place, you might want to think twice, just in case... you could be starting your own "LL won't return deposit..." thread and this would be just one more thing for you to argue about!
Personally, I would chuck it / freecycle it / burn it!
Oh and well done on getting your own place at long last isn't it great?!!! I imagine you furnishing it up like a true bachelor pad - have you got the revolving bed and mirrors on the ceilings in yet?!0 -
When I read the title of your post I thought you meant "a bad smell"
So she gains an extra piece of furniture - from what you say having it in her house is a liability - as you as a tenant it's not required. I would just phone the landlord and say the item was not there when you viewed and is not required, can she therefore please remove or will she give permission for you to remove it0 -

Haven't quite got the revolving bed but the mirrors are 'conveniently positioned' shall we say!
It's fantastic. Apart from the cooking. And cleaning. And washing. And ironing. And shopping. Other than that I can't fault it! :rotfl:0 -
Hey SS, well done getting your own place........when's your housewarming??

Re the chest of drawers, I'd personally dismantle it all, box it up and stick it in a shed or loft, so that it's still there should they require it and can't really hassle you when you leave, but taking up less room

Hi Savv's.
I'm not really sure it is dismantable. It's quite old looking. And besides I don't have a loft or shed and my mum won't have it! :rotfl:
I think dumping it is winning by a nose!

Just ring either the LL or the LA and say "There's some furniture that seems to have been left behind - would you like to arrange to take it away or would it help if I dispose of it on your behalf?" If they start dithering just tell them that you need it out of the way by the middle of next week because the flat was advertised as unfurnished and you need the space for your own stuff..
It probably just that a previous tenant either left some of their own furntiure behind or had asked the LL for some furniture and the LL couldn't be bothered with the hassle of getting shut of it. Just communicate......

Ah in that case then.......................can you not have an 'accident' with it and claim for a new one on the contents insurance :rotfl::rotfl:
Failing that, put it out on the front, and let freecycle take it.......................but tell the LL that it was out there as you were rubbing it down to lovingly renovate it and some weird hobo must have stolen it, or the council thought it was rubbish :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:Honorary Northern Bird bestowed by AnselmI'm a Board Guide and volunteer to help get your forum questions answered and keep the forum running smoothly on Special Occasions, Green/Ethical, Motoring/Overseas/UK Travel & Flood boards, it's not part of my role to deal with reportable posts. if its just that you dont like the look of it would it look better if you paint it white.
cant you stick it in a wardrobe, you'd have more storage space inside the wardrobe, as long as there were short things hanging in the wardrobe of course.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
