I always find the four packs really expensive. Better to hand pick big ones in the supermarket.

I would never buy the separate ones. You are paying a premium for them being sorted and cleaned. Floury potato varieties are best for baking.

I bake any kind of potato (except new potatoes which go hollow inside if you microwave them),we buy a big sack of potatoes from the farm shop for £3.50 ,then I pick out the biggest ones and keep the seperate for baking.

We have a couple of older threads on baked potatoes - just to help things along a bit :)

One is more about what to put on them than about cooking them - but there are some good ideas there :)

They are normally £1.19 where I buy them and I thought that normal potatoes would do the same thing!

We usually pick large potatoes and slam them in the oven. The packs don't have large enough potatoes for my liking.

Just a suggestion, but if you used smaller ones and perhaps everyone had two each, the cooking time would surely be shorter, thus saving on fuel.

I always avoid the really big ones for this reason.

i do buy the pack of 4 baking spud's when they are on offer. i like baking really tiny tatties and then serving them as bite size nibbles with cream cheese on top. yummy. makes a change when having a buffet style dinner.
