Tesco Online Shopping!!!

Hi,

Just want to vent really, am so annoyed with Tesco:mad: .

I did my shopping online on Tues evening (as I do every week) and ordered a crate of Lager at the price of £10.98. When the lager was delivered on Thursday the price had now changed to £15.48.

This is the second time now that they have stitched me up. The same thing happened at the end of July and when i emailed them was told that it was on Special offer and the offer had now ended. I am 100% sure that it was not on offer but how could I prove it?

Then it happened again to me yesterday. I even checked late on Wednesday night to make sure that the price was still £10.98 and it was (no special offer, £10.98 was the price). Then come Thursday morning it has increased by £4.50. What more can I do? I couldn't change the order on the morning as I have a early morning slot.

I e-mailed them yesterday but got no reply so have just phoned them and they just said that prices given at time of order are a guide price and if I didn't want it then I can return it to the store.

Just seems so wrong to me. When you do your shopping you go by the price to decide whether you want to buy the item or not (I could have got it much cheaper elsewhere). Of course prices will fluctuate slightly but it was nearly a 50% increase on the price that I ordered at in less than 12 hours.

Perhaps you knowledgable lot can tell me, are all the other stores the same ie. Sainsbury, Asda? because I am seriously considering changing where I shop.

Has this happened to anyone else?

Sorry for the rant, I don't normally get annoyed like this but they really got me wound up.

I've only done one online shop with tesco. Included in all my shopping I bought 3 things of meat / chicken - usually £4 each but £10 all together.

2 of them were out of stock and they sent 'replacements' which were £5.50 and £6 ish each, so I didn't get the special of £10. I wasn't there when the shopping was delivered and arranged for a friend to be there, so she didn't send the items back.

When I got home and saw the overcharge (about £5 altogether) I phoned them up and said that I'd only bought the 3 things together because of the special and I wouldn't have bothered otherwise. I thought because it hadn't been sent back with the driver they would refuse to help me, but they refunded me without any problems (or said they would anyway - I'd better check).

Why don't you phone them and say you only bought because of the advertised price. If they quibble, send it back with the next order, and buy it cheaper elsewhere if you can.

They try and rip people off at every available opportunity, hoping that you won't notice. They make millions this way.

  • Hi,

    Thanks for your replies.
I phoned them earlier and did say that I bought the item because of the price it was advertised at but they just told me to take it back or send it back with the driver next week if I didn't want it.

I would have sent it back with the driver yesterday but when I questioned the price with him he said to just phone them and they should be able to sort it out, so thought that there had been a pricing mistake and I had been overcharged.

I am a little calmer now but still think a £4.50 increase in price overnight isn't fair play. I felt picked on actually - like they waited for me to order at a attractive price but then charged whatever they felt like on the day of delivery. I suppose it was because this was the second time it had happened to me. I could kick myself though because they were offering a deal on a different size and could have got a better deal than the £15.48 but didn't know that at the time.

Anyway thanks again for your replies

My biggest gripe with them atm is being hit on for dental insurance every time I go in the store. I had another thread about this. I don't mind charity collectors, but being hassled when I just want a few groceries is another matter.

Ours just got a pharmacy so we keep being hassled about health checks!

I just scowl at them and walk on - they don't bother me anymore now. I'm a brilliant scowler! :D
Don't grow up. Its a trap!

    Peace, love and labradors!

Rubbish. They have an overall profit margin of only around 5%. I can guarentee whatever line of work you're in providing it's not government/charity funded will have a higher profit margin.

This happens to me weekly with my home shopping, although i am totally aware of their t&cs where it says prices can change,i disagree with the huge increase on some products and feel they are playing on this.I had a long discussion with one of their cs people who stuck to her guns till i asked her to send the driver back to collect these over priced goods as the final price i was charged i did not agree to,she quickly changed her tune and refunded me what i had been overcharged.I will continue to do this every time i am overcharged by a large amount to stop them charging me whatever comes up their humph on the day of delivery.
  • If they are anything like Sainsburys, you can send things back with the driver, and you will get a refund...You could also try taking it back to the store, explaining that you only wanted it at the published price and get a refund?
