I wasnt fussed on E&L either. After paying hundreds of pounds for my dog's op I recieved a pittance in re-imbursment.
I changed earlier on this year to More Than and though my dog passed away she had xray's etc Ive had no problem with them.
My vet said at the time they are a nightmare and are known for it.0 -
my vet warned me about these people evidentally they have a nickname among vetinary types as "excuses and Lies" (E&L).0

E&L - their name strikes despair into the hearts of Veterinary Surgeons. Ever since the rule-changes on insurance, vets have been unable to voice themselves freely as professionals, and have had to nod politely or gently steer clients away from the pesky company without saying a word. Some have been bold and spoken out to their clients but this risks quite severe penalty and should not be done. Speaking as a "friend" or as a "man-in-the street" is allowed and then opinions can be voiced. Steer clear. For the record though More Than are always more-than brilliant. In fact most of the rest of the companies are perfectly fine to deal with. Had to laugh though - bought a golf magazine the other day and an E&L "golf insurance" leaflet fell out - Arrrrggghhhh! I havent lost a fight over a claim with E&L yet though - always got them to pay - just verrryyyy Sloooowww.Garantissez-moi de mes amis, je saurai me defendre de mes ennemis0

I had my previous dog (RIP Dec07) insured with E&L, and had to make a claim - no problems at all IME, although this was about 2002, so perhaps they've deteriorated since then.
Which is worrying, as my new dog (rescued Mar08) is also insured with them - I wanted an annual policy rather than a monthly, but there don't seem to be many about.
I was thinking I'll get a better level of cover when he gets a bit older (he's only 2), but am now thinking I'll get a different insurer next year!!0 -
please change from e and l before you need to claim for anything they are a complete nightmare and are not a for life covernow proud mum to 3 handsome boys :j latest one born 10/10/11:j0

I had both my old dogs with e&l as it was so much cheaper - I should know better really, im an equine nurse, and I have had many, many dealings with e&l....
When my Hoverwart got ill, he was admitted to hospital - having improved brilliantly after 3 days, I was told we could pick him up the following day. Sadly he suddenly had a huge relapse onvernight,(after the last nurse check at 10pm) and had died when they went in the next morning. E&L refused to pay Murphys hospitalisation fees because "it is not a life threatening condition".... I have yet to get a satisfactory answer to exactly WHAT a life threatening condition is - I would have thought dying counted as being life threatening in the run up to it.....
The new dog is insured with Pet Plan, and they have been fantastic, :T (oh, and Im about to claim again !!!)Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup0 -

i just took out AXA insurance for an oldie cat I have adopted...there was little choice on the market, but the ones that seemed good and concise and not a total rip-off were M&S, GreenBee and AXA - Greenbee is underwritten by AXA. Animalfriends looked very good too - apart from the 35% excess, not something one should sign up to with a 13.5yo cat!
all were annual policies which renewed each year.0
