VAT on Mobile Bill
Hi there
Can anyone help with this. I've just purchased a contract mobile from The Link (the K750i "£4.99..." offer). On my first bill they've added VAT putting the bill up from the £14.50 (actually £14.49) I expected to £17.03. Now I am aware that VAT is normally added in this way but my query is that The Link's T & C's state "All prices and charges on this site are in UK pounds. They include any VAT payable...". So shouldn't my bill be £14.50 in TOTAL (including VAT) as the tariff price on the website is "£14.50 for 6 mths". I've had a good look around but nowhere can I find any mention that this price excludes VAT. What are your views?

I agree with drek and I work for an accountants.
If the line you quote is correct then they must agree to it - the terms and conditions are binding on them as they are on you.
How are you paying?
If by any chance you pay by cheque you should only pay the £14.50 and mark the back of the cheques "Amount in dispute".0 -
if you read it, then its inclusive. The only time VAT wouldn't be included (as a usual) is if you were getting it for business purposes or a special business leaflet. As in Tradex leaflet, they are prices ex VAT but it clearly states it all over the leaflet.Panda xx

As it is your 1st bill you may find that it is for a month and a bit, and the fact that it came out as £14.50 is a coincidence. I have contracts with "3" & "O2" and both of them list the price before and after VAT, but the line rental is the monthly total including VAT.You're Damned If You Do & You're Damned If You Don't.0 -
I'm with Russ on this one.0

Hi again. Thanks for all of your help and sorry for the delay in following up.
gizmoleeds: I'm paying by D/D but thanks for the tip.
iceburn: Yes it's a cashback deal (see 'Sony K750i@link' thread) but at The Link it states, "Months 1 to 3 and 15 to 18 are billed at the discounted rate of £14.50 a month by T-Mobile". So in line with their T & C's I believe it should state 'excl VAT' if that is the case, as it appears to be from my bill.
Russ66: The bill is for one month and a day (£0.91) the breakdown as follows:
Price Plan £28.99
Price Plan Discount £14.50
Calls £0
Total before VAT £14.49
VAT £2.54
Total (by D/D) £17.03
So it would seem that they've omitted to mention the 'excl VAT' bit at The Link, I Think!0 -
Has anybody else taken up this offer and found the same problem?0
