Question re Sony Ericsson K550i

Hi,

I've just bought a brand new k550i, and unlike any mobile phone I've previously owned, this one doesn't appear to have the facility whereby if a text comes in, that you miss, it fails to give off a reminder "bleep" every few minutes. Until you read it.

I often miss incoming texts and with this phone I have to keep checking to see that I've no new messages. Yesterday I got a text at 6pm and discovered it around 10pm. Is there any way of setting the phone to give reminders re unread messages?

Thanks.

not on any sony ericsson unless you patch the phone with the sms reminder patch.

just bear in mind that if you do alter the phones software via patches, say goodbye to the warranty

Hi GG, Where can you get that patch from = and any other software for that matter.

Greeat phone BTW but poor quality finish IMHO. The chrome has already started to wear away.:(

How easy is it to fit a new front panel?

Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea.

i'm ever so sorry, but i can only seem to find it for the k790/k800/k810. however, im sure someone would be able to port it to the k550/w610 on se-nse.com.

before you start patching/reflashing your phone, i strongly recommend to BACKUP THE GDFS OF THE PHONE. if anything goes wrong and you dont have a GDFS backup, then say bye to your phone.

to patch db2020 CID52 phones, you will need SEtool2lite or far manager + jdflasher (far has a DOS like interface). dont bother applying the quick access patch unless you want to add multiple patches

    Hi, Thanks for that.

Possibly in the process of moving home very soon so will try that later and come back to you then.

The SMS patch for the k810i should work if phone is flashed with relavent software, I assume.

For someone new to this, will it take very long and is it SIMPLE or complex.

PS I have moved files to and from my Lobster phone but that is windows compatible.

you can only crossflash the k550 to a w610 (so w610i patches will work, but k550 ones won't).

for example if a patch is named R8BA024_w580_[description of patch].vkp, that means it HAS to be flashed to a w580 with R8BA024 firmware on it.

it take around 15 mins to do a patch a CID52 db2020 sony ericsson, and providing you follow the instructions you should be fine. it can seem complex for the 1st time but once you have done it once you should be able to do it easily next time.

i would suggest for you to use SEtool2lite to patch it. to patch a sony successfully, you will need a main firmware (see below for description) and the patch you want to apply.

The main firmware will look something like
K810_R8ba024_MAIN_GENERIC_SM_RED52.mbn, where K810 is the phone, R8ba024 is the firmware version, main is the firmware type (the other is the FS (file system)), SM is the codename of the phone (k810 is samantha) and RED52 means that its for retail phones with CID52 security on them
