ebico raising there prices?

i went to the shop to get some electric and gas on the key and gas on the card and put it into the meter, no change on the gas, but the electric has gone from 11.13p kwh to 14.13 a kwh.
i phoned them up and they said it was right due to the pricerise, i have not had any indication of the rise, nor does it state on there website that there is a pricerise?/?

I think officially they have to let you know within 28 days of it happening so likely any letters will be out shortly. As they benchmark SSE it was always likely to change this month or soon

Based on those figures you have quoted, that would be a 27% increase, if they applied the same increase to my area, or even a 25% increase, then there are at least 2 suppliers in my area that are at least £40 to £45 cheaper a year on standard tariffs !! and payment by non direct debit and single fuel !!, based on an average yearly use of around 3000 kwh electricity. There would be a 3rd supplier cheaper by £10 a year, and 2 other suppliers that are more expensive by £20 to £50. The £50 more expensive is the home supplier to my area, which is Yorkshire.

Pity, I would be moving away from ebico. They certainly could not state they are an ethical / not for profit company and dont have shareholders / advertising etc..., considering at least 2 other main suppliers would be cheaper !! who do advertise / shareholders and make profit.
  • I've said it before, unless you have VERY low usage and/or some 'unusual' payment methods then Ebico are primarily not for you. There are cynics (of course, I'm not one of them, oh no) who would be of the opinion that they appear to be allowing the people who would be better off elswehere by letting them subsidise the low users/cheque-paying etc people. In that respect, argue the cynics, they are really no 'better' than BG who 'use' the people STILL on their standard rate (even tho they fit they criteria for being on Click 5) to keep Click 5 one of the most competitive tariffs on the market.

They now have 65 working days(13 weeks!!) to formally notify you of a price increase.

Strange, the Ebico newsletter has just appeared in my inbox, no mention there about price rises, seems a missed [or cynical] opportunity

Ebico have yet to make a decision about increased prices as stated here by c0113tt3

I suggest you call them again free on 0800 096 6344, and get them to explain the real reason for the increase on your card. :)

  • I topped up my Electricity on the 4th Sept too and still charged 11.38 kwh with Ebico.

I was charged 9.80 until a few weeks ago as the price was kept back.

Ebico told me they were not increasing for a while, SSE energyplus care aren't too.

Maybe you have the wrong code on your Elec key - best ring Ebico Customer service desk @ SSE
